Tips for next HM?

    Hi all,

I completed my 3rd ever half in Berlin on Sunday. My training took me up to around 40km per week and I'm just wondering if anyone can advise what to do next re training. My next HM is Clontarf in July and I'm also signed up for my first marathon (DCM) in October (and the race series).
Should I follow a new training plan, reducing my mileage and building up again, or is it better to keep weekly mileage at a higher level?

    Thanks

Running more often and for longer will improve your times, I don't think you should be looking at reducing your mileage, unless you're increasing the intensity of your runs by a fair bit.

There's plenty of good HM plans around, given that you've already done a few maybe take a look at the Hal Higdon Intermediate:

For the marathon, you should obviously follow the DCM Mentored Novices thread and the official boards.ie plan :) (last year's thread is here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057429723 )

    Thanks for the advice.

The intermediate plan looks good so I'll give that a go.
I've already penciled in the boards.ie marathon plan :). Looking forward to it and bricking myself in equal measure!

That is also my feeling towards it, for what will hopefully be my first marathon!

Re your recent HM - well done! I don't have a lot to offer regarding training except a lot of people round these parts do stress the need to allow an adequate number of days recovery after a race before jumping into any hard training, so make sure to take that on board too.

Thanks, not planning on running again until Saturday and I'll ease myself into it. Good luck yourself with the marathon (and training).
