Merc just the 1.2 seconds ahead in Q2. To McLaren. Can't help but feel they're holding back a bit. :pac:

Apparently Alonso still wants to race this weekend and mclaren lobbied the fia this morning to let him but they were told 'no'.

Anyone watching FP3 on Sky Sports now? Alonso just came up to Johnny Herbert on air, shook his hand and basically said you're not a world champion and that's why you ended up commentating, then walked off. In reference to Herbert saying he thinks Alonso should retire or sounds like he's talking about it. Classic. :)

Dreadful question to ask someone, "Are you not gonna retire?" What a muppet

Wondering what happened before the above to prompt what Fernando said? He looked like he was gunning for Johnny as he was walking up to him. Had Johnny talked about Fernando retiring previously?

I felt the opposite, that Fernando looked fine at the beginning. Strange one, but it's Sky so expect muppetry

Wonder is it worth watching Qualifying live today, finding it hard to have much interest in this weekend

Bull****e alright but it's sky so I'm not surprised one bit.
Lol at him after Alonso is gone, 'i wasn't world champion'.

Both ferrari's on top in fp3, Mercedes might not have it all their own way tomorrow.

Qualifying coverage of Qualifying now on. So far the only new thing is Suzi Wolff: if you're wondering about her accent. she's from Oban in the west of Scotland.

Some pretty dismissive comments from Bernie about the drivers there on the C4 coverage

I get the impression that's regarding their letter. There's a major power struggle going on unseen in the background I feel

Absolutely agree, now I can't wait to see EJ's interview with Bernie.

    Edit: on C4 now

Herbert was amazed that Alonso did not fight harder to drive in Bahrain after the doctors declared him unfit.

Wow, no wonder that Alonso reacted that way.

On quali> Sauber are really on the decline, now already beaten by Manor in qualifying.

This is even worse than Melbourne, over 3 minutes of Q1 to go and nobody fighting for a place in Q2. What a ridiculous system.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,477 ✭✭✭✭Ghost Train

    Perez out early

Bit of a delay with the Q2 traffic light?

Looked like we lost 1minute of session

It really is stupid, it's typical F1 style they take something that worked and replace it with something that's overly convoluted and doesn't work

Button could be in trouble now

Mega lap from Grosjean there P8

    Great lap by Grosjean indeed!

Max is going to be sitting in Kyvat's seat next year I reckon. Good job from Vandoorne.

And yep, this is boring as hell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,532 ✭✭✭Harika

wow ridiculous Vandorme with enough time celecrates instead of another lap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,414 ✭✭✭✭flazio

None the less, getting 2 McLarens into Q2 Is a major improvement.
6 minutes left and Q2 is nearly over.

    This too shall pass.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,378 ✭✭✭HighLine

Actually ridiculous how much of a farce this system it. 6 minutes left and nearly an empty track.

So..... how's your weekend so far?

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,077 ✭✭✭✭bnt

There's the problem with the system right there: Hulkenberg moved up to P8, Sainz dropped from P10 to P11 ... not enough reason to risk the car or tyres for a place or three.

Red Bull really picked the wrong driver in Kvyat didn't they? Always rated Vergne higher than him.

Qualifying is on the boring side so far.

Would work better if the "countdown" didn't apply for the last 5 minutes or so, then the bottom 3 or 4 at the end would be eliminated. But hey, why do something that'd make sense.

Verne was in the run for the seat but Vettel seemed to stay so they told him he needs to find a different cockpit. Basically firing him, then Vettel jumped to Ferrari and RedBull didn't want to backpaddle and give him the cockpit.

Definitely felt like a quiet Q2, not good

Would be nice to see something different in Q3, maybe somebody could delay their first run a bit or do something different but I'm not hopeful

Yeah Sainz seems very handy but doesn't get the exposure for some reason.

    Cmon Vettel!!
