So guys quick question been reading about the benefits of Almond and Coconut milk, what would be your thinking of changing it up and going with either of these instead of dairy

Personal preferance really , I'm not a huge fan of either but no harm in mixing it up.

Normal full fat milk it great down , plenty of protein in a 300 ml glass.

No problem substituting either in most recipes; be careful that the one you choose is not full of added sugar, starch, thickeners, or other additives. A little stabilizer may be needed to keep it from separating, but that's all that should be in there, or you have a milkshake, not a "milk".

Incidentally if lactose intolerance is the issue, plain unsweetened soy milk is actually the closest to regular milk nutritionally.

Almond milk or other nut and seed "milks" are not that difficult to make at home, either; basically you just soak the seeds overnight and then blend them thoroughly with water, then strain out the particles. We used to do this with rice and cinnamon and a bit of sugar in Texas for "horchata", which is nice in the summer, chilled, or in the winter, heated.

Why were you thinking of switching in the first place?

No real reason tbh, just was thinking of mixing it up, but if their isnt obvious health improvements doesnt seem worth it

Well, if memory serves me, you were trying to lose weight. Coconut milk has more calories than normal milk and almond milk has less.

Whether or not that makes a difference depends on how much milk you drink.

On the subject of Milk, if people can stand the sweet taste of Almond or Soy Milk like me, there's always Avonmore Low Fat Milk with extra Protein. It's only downfall is it's price though. 1 euro for a 500ml container.

Oh, buh, "unsweetened" soy milk is plenty sweet (I put that in quotes because it is still usually a little bit sweetened with juice concentrate or something else mild). I've even bought pure strained unsweetened soy milk from a huge Asian market in Houston, Texas (where Asian mostly means China, Korea, Vietnam, and Japan), and wow, it had a serious "beany" taste, but they like it that way because it tastes "natural"... an acquired taste and I like soymilk. Americans have developed a soybean that is much less aggressive in flavor, and I used it with a little machine to make my own soymilk when I was a vegan. If I could find true unsweetened soymilk, I'd drink that in place of a glass of milk (but still cook with regular milk).

Coconut milk is a lot lower in calories than normal milk. About 55 cals per 250ml. About half as much as low fat milk, and 1/3 of full fat milk. I only because I both a carton this morning.

The coconut milk for drinking (cartons) is different than the milk/cream for cooking (tins). Basically the water content.
