I didn't think that was a pen on first look myself.

Good game so far though. I can't see it ending 1-0. Good possession football from Ireland. Ward looks a liability though, and Whelan was poor for the goal.

    Peno, who will take it?

Bad decision, possibly to even it up after we gave them an automatic goal by starting McShane.

Wow, the pace of Long there. Skrtel doing his best impression of an articulated truck attempting to turn.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,019 ✭✭✭davycc

decent kick from mcclean 2-1 !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,113 ✭✭✭mada999

really hope we dont do an Ireland and drop back and hold on what we got... keep attacking... these are rubbish at the back...

Long is an absolute handful. Rough on Elliott who was doing well all season in a bad team.

Ward was at sea for their goal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,113 ✭✭✭mada999

have to say Randolf has a great kick out on him... looks so easy

He's improved immensely since his move to Southampton under Koeman. Amazing what a technically minded coach can.do. His effort can never be faulted but sometimes he does miss the few chances. Still though

Stephen Ward is such a bloody liability. He's not even close to international standard and never has been.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,113 ✭✭✭mada999

the pitch looks a bit rubbish

Can that officially be the last we see of McShane? Like, what's he still doing in the squad anyway, has it not been abundantly clear for years that he's just not capable at this level? Would have Duffy over him any day of the week.

Honestly, it seems his whole international career has been built upon one good performance against Jan Koller and the Czechs!

I seem to recall even in that game he was culpable for a goal. Stan, Trap and now O'Neill all seem to like him. Although you could make the same argument about Ward and Whelan, two players who often don't look capable of playing the game at all and yet, there they are, earning a fortune and getting picked for their country year after year.

Always has been and always will be a liability. If he knew how to defend properly we would never talk about the Henry handball incident.

The Irish Skrtel with an OG.

Some awful defending on show here from both sides, we are playing decent though.

1st penalty was never a penalty. I'll take it, though.

Both goals down his side should of stayed in the league of ireland.

This is a great game to watch though; end to end, ****e defending, poor ref decisons, and even a few naughty tackles

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,444 ✭✭✭✭Skid X

Shay Given is one of the studio pundits on Setanta, unusual to see a player commenting on his current/potential team mates.

He must be delighted seeing Elliot injured, don't think he'd be in the squad for the euros otherwise.

Oh for Wes Hoolahan to be 10 years younger.:(

Indeed, between Butland and Elliot's injuries, it's all coming up Millhouse for Shay.

Playing well at the start of this 2nd half, was expecting the game to fizzle out, but it's been very competitive up to now. Skrtel trying to be a smartass with McLean, hopefully McLean will keep the head, he has played very well tonight.
