Did anyone apply for this? The web based form that the applicant fills in is abysmal and gives a very poor impression. I wonder how much the recruitment agency is being paid out of public money for this.
    • Spelling errors (refree, speacialisation)
    • Poor visibility (grey text on a white background)
    • Problems saving correct date of birth
    • Can't enter proper punctuation such as apostrophes in certain fields
    • General poor functionality and usability
    • Mention of it being a permanent position in one place even though the RSA's info booklet states that it is a 2 year contract

Also, this thing of refusing any further applications if/when they reach 10,000 before the closing date is not something that I've come across before for public sector jobs.

Think they did it for the census jobs recently

Anyone apply and get an email to do an online English test? The website is so bad it's actually laughable.

Also does anyone know how many positions there are up for grabs?

Got an email to do a "language test". Absolutely no idea what this entails. If anyone finds out or does the test please give us a heads up!

Agree the website is  . Am worried i might get tested in azerbaijani language - it was the default language on the application form and it took me ages to delete it from my form but you never know it might still be on the form.

No, you didn't need to have references added.

As long as you've met the basic criteria as set out in the information booklet you should get the email for the Language Proficiency Test.

The couple of weeks probably excluded me so ah well

I've heard the salary for this job are quite good, am guessing it will be quite difficult to get the job considering they were open to up to 10k applicants, I thought I saw a figure somewhere for the amount of jobs going but I can't remember even a ball park figure what it was.

Trying to find this proficiency test is proving quite the challenge! Website just so slow and doesn't open different icons when you open them.

I was at 100% before the closing date, had added referees and met all requirements but haven't heard anything about a language test. The website is so bad that I'm not sure if I even applied for the job or merely filled in my profile. When I click on "Closed Jobs" there is a graphic that implies that I have applied for the driver tester position - but when I click on "Applied Jobs" I get a message that there are no jobs to display.

Complaints should be going into the RSA about this.

My profile displays the same info about Closed Jobs and Applied Jobs - it's very confusing, but I got the email about language test this evening. If you're unsure whether you've actually applied check your emails; you should have received an email thanking you for your application and that you've completed Stage 1 of the process. If you didn't get that email then definitely contact RSA.

Just got an email about the English test. Anyone else done it yet? Am hoping the test is easier to navigate than the application form. Does anyone know how many jobs are available? How many more tests will there be? All very mysterious..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,562 ✭✭✭Sono

I still can't manage to locate this English test on my profile, what a bizarre setup.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,688 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Yes Ive just done the Language test there now. A load of childish crap with just a few qs you might wonder about.
50 questions total and 75% to pass.
I got 92% but the site is a joke. Its still showing the test as a to do on mine.
Id like to know how many jobs are available.
From the information booklet there is a good bit of info. The next step is an online aptitude test, online technical assessment, then an assessment centre in Dublin - whatever that is, then a driving test in Dublin, then an interview. Jesus, you would want the first years wages by the time you get the job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 Sleepy1

I've just done my language test too and it is still showing up as "to do"?? got 96% and as mickdw said, the questions were really childish. I hope the technical part is as easy!. Just read that there are only 10 ( well the actual wording is "no more than 10 roles currently available") jobs up for grabs. They do say that they MAY form a panel for future vacancies. You'd wonder why 10,000 applicants were required.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 108 ✭✭mandymo

Just got an email regarding doing an online technical test. Let's hope it's easier to access than the language test!

Yes, got an email too. I know nothing about the technical side of a car... Let's know how you get on. All the best

I got it too. Will be doing it later. Technical in what way I wonder?
Would it be specific to the job?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 Sleepy1

Am hoping it will be the technical stuff that you need for a driving test. I found info about it on their website - just stuff like where coolant goes and that sort of thing. Really can't imagine what to expect. Will probably do it in the morning. Fingers crossed it will be as easy as the English test!

    I did the test.
It's basically the theory test you would do for a car licence.
My computer froze mid test. Thought that was me fecked. Anyway it let me back in to start it again and completed ok. It just said at the end to await an email in coming days.

    I had completed it.

    Basic theory test questions.

Appreciate that mickdw. Not use to Boards.ie so hope this shows up!

The technical test is basically the driver theory test, some signs, driving rules etc. Mostly basic common sense answers. It was hard to access the test the link was in the to do list under the other test.

Just got email about completing an online aptitude test. Going to do a few sample ones before I attempt the real one to get the brain working.

Yep, got that too. Had a look there at the samples - ok in general. Some of the logical sequence stuff was pretty tough (and Im good at that kinda stuff) but it marked me "well above average" so all good.
Looking at email again, the logical stuff may not be part of the rsa test - Verbal ability, checking ability & Personality test

Anyone done the test yet? Do you get the result immediately? Thanks

Not done the real test yet.
I wonder if all these rounds of nonsense have actually knocked anybody out?
The next round is assessment centre I think. How many would they be likely to take to that stage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 Sleepy1

Yes. If these tests haven't knocked anyone out there is going to be thousands of us at the assessment. You'd wonder what's going on although I know someone who did the same process for the civil service and was on a panel as a result of the process. She thought no more about it and didn't hear for ages and then out of the blue got a job offer! That's what's keeping me going.

Haven't had time to do them yet. Will get time tomorrow afternoon hopefully to sit down and complete them. I wonder what the centre assessment will entail.

Pity about the age requirment :( I would have loved to be able to apply. I'm only 24, although I do have my license years.

Any idea what the assessment centre thing is about. Is it one of these group activity things?

I wonder if this age limitation is actually legal. It might be worth querying this with the Equality Authority if you'd be interested in pushing it.

I was actually thinking that mate. It definetely doesnt seem fair. If you have all the other requirements I dont see issue with age. Might send off an email to see what the story with it is.

Not sure when i'll be able to get them done.
Was wondering because for the sample verbal test i think it strange they give you 75 seconds to read the passage and select an answer then the next question you have 60 seconds to answer the next etc. I hope in the actual test they give us the 3 mins 15 secs to read the passage and answer the relating 3 questions like is done by PAS.

I think there are a few questions based on each passage.

I think giving you the tight time limit, possible not enough time to fully read the piece helps to sort out those who can scan the text for appropriate info as opposed to those who might like to comfortably read the text

Yes I know, scanning text quickly and accurately for relevant info is typical of this form of assessment.

Really I'm only wondering whether the format of the sample will be the same as the real thing ie gives 75 sec to read text and answer Q; 60 secs read same text and answer Q; 60 secs read same text and answer Q.

I was just asking if anyone who's done the test might say how it is formatted. As I said PAS do it differently for their civil service tests so best practice obviously varies.

    can't be legal can it

The job is judging the driving of others You cannot drive a car until 17 so I can certainly see how a minimum number of years experience would be needed.

yeah 5 years full license as stated
but you could pass you test at 17 so would have 9 years experience at 26 and be less qualified than someone with just over half the experience

    equality commission states
    The Age ground:
You are entitled to equal treatment at work if you are any age so long as
you are over the legal school-leaving age.

I'd say a bit of that will go on. They must be the handiest jobs out there.
