    Hi guys looking at one of these, 2009 model so low tax and wondering how do people find the 1.9 in terms of noise/refinement and performance. It's the old PD engine and a lot of reviews say it's noisy and unrefined and transmits vibrations into the cabin compared with the newer CR but I know it's a tried and tested, reliable engine.

    They are are not the quietest or most refined diesel out there but you get bulletproof reliability to make up for it. I don't see another engine ever being built to beat that VAG 1.9 PD

    Some of the later 1.9 TDi engines with engine code BXE were known to kill themselves when the conrod decides to put itself through the block. More info in this thread:
