I was listening to Spotify recently - free account, of course. They've those usual ads that have snippets from other songs and I really liked one of them. No idea who sang it and after the Nth time I thought I'd go see who - it was Justin effin' Bieber. Fuppin' hell. Probably that song about loving yourself, that the OP mentioned.

    Weird.

Hammer Smashed Face - Cannibal Corpse.

    Just an emotional rollercoaster.

Had similar experience with Bieber recently. Can't remember name of song now but heard it on radio, loved it, surprised to learn it was Mr Bieber.
Just goes to show I shouldn't believe all the hype!

That "Love Yourself" song sounds like one of those recorded-in-a-kitchen tunes they play in Tesco to avoid paying out royalties. It's ****ing wack.

Was compiling an 80's playlist recently and this cropped up.

    Can't help liking it.

    Mika's, Grace Kelly.

He's an annoying lil peanut, but something about that song, I keep thinking its Freddie Mercury and Queen in parts.

Funny that, I clicked on this thread because I was going to post that Justin Bieber song!

Taylor Shift. Her lyrics are amazing even if I think she's a little unhinged.

Sir Cliff was muppeting on about royalties due to performers a while back
http://www.theguardian.com/media/2011/sep/12/musicians-copyright-extension Yes, another 20 years of copyright extension for performers rights holders.

anyway the point is , if Cliff can sing a song and it still sounds good then it's a great song.

    Try Carrie or Devil Woman.

As a heavy metal fan, I think Lifted by The Lighthouse Family is one of the greatest songs ever recorded.

Don't know the 'Love Yourself' song but Justin Bieber's 'Sorry' is an absolute CHOOOOON!
There are also a good few Eurovision song contest entries that I really like every year. Even though Eurovision is supposed to be a "guilty pleasure" you occasionally get entries that are genuinely top-quality songs.

    Drake - Jungle

    Aaarrghh the feels :/

I heard that Bieber song and straight after it "Don't stop till you get enough" came on. The words chalk and cheese sprang to mind immediately.

Two global stars of roughly the same age when both tracks were released. One a classic record, the other a meandering, phoned in, repetitive ditty. Try harder JB.

Had always dismissed 80s power ballads as the work of the devil but then Rockstar started putting them in the GTA games and I found myself slowly being converted.

Lost count of the amount of daring car chases were played out to Hold the line by Toto in GTA IV. Amazing song.

I wouldn't be mad on most modern pop, but Jess Glynne's songs are brilliant.

Also Counting Stars by One Republic is a brilliant pop song.

Britney Spears - Everytime. She usually gives me a pain in the face, but I love this one :)

At first, I was all like thinking they were just trying to leech money outta the film and feels..

and maybe they were.. still are..

    but anyway..

Sam Hunt - Take your Time

Unfortunately not able to post links due to being a newbie. As a fan of traditional country there is only some of the modern wave of Americans that i can stand. Then I heard of this guy mixing rap with pop with country and my first thoughts were of the George Strait song "Murder on Music Row". Safe to say I was more than pleasantly surprised and am now a massive fan even seeing him perform at country to country in the 3 arena the weekend before last!

I remember that being a hit in my LC year. Never really heard anything from him again after it.

Bruno Mars - Locked Out Of Heaven..

Don't like him , but this song makes me want to turn it up full blast when driving on a sunny day (not that we get too many of them) :)

I liked Insomnia but I liked Salva Mea also by Faithless even more.

Slacker - Scared was the best dance record that mid 90's time period. Such high quallity production & great vocal samples.

But for songs that I wouldn't like eh I was never a big fan of the Beatles but I just ****ingg love Come Together.

This is the one I always think of. I don't even like dance music but this is a damn catchy song.

I quoted the wrong post there lol. I was supposed to be quoting the post about MIka.
I do like Bruno Mars, he kind of has a Michael Jackson thing going on and I respect him for being a song writer and coming up through the ranks to fame with his own songs.

I love Locked out of heaven , don't particularily like any of his other songs , but that doesn't mean I don't think fair dues to him for getting to where he is .

I'm not an R&B fan and I barely know his music, but I really like Hotline Bling by Drake.

At first listen I was thinking, " what's this nonsense?". But after a few more hearings I appreciated how hooky the song is and I just love the way it feels a bit spooky and off, despite how catchy it is. Love the use of the organ as well.

Nah.. .this is a better one from them:

I've always been more about individual songs than artists for some reason.

Remember the Millennium and how we all thought computers would die?

She's actually pretty good in the show Shades of Blue too (Ray Liotta is in it too and he's always great). The only song of hers I like though.

Oh and as someone mentioned Vice City, Flash FM was the best station :)

That bassline, the production quality ... and the way the ladies sound like they're loving it. In the last chorus it sounds like they are singing so hard, for the sheer joy of music, that their vocal cords are about to blow a gasket. :p

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.
