The Minister will not need to give this PSB status as TV3 will not lobby the Department, it was a different senario where by TV3 pointed out that according to the Act the Dept/Min would have to make UTV Ireland a PSB by designation. Note how none of the papers pointed out that at the time that UTV Radio paid the Broadcasting Level as TV3 and all the other Radio services in the country. If the current minister drops the levy (which he could do considering he is a rural TD) then it becomes a moot point. Though Saorview have every right to provide access to any broadcaster if it has capacity, and Saorview has capacity for Irish TV.

And unfortunately broadcasting will always have a political side to it, and that is why it comes up for discussion here.

For Irish TV to earn 8m a year is excellent. But it seems to me it's a pet project from a millionaire. The RTÉ blame game is already a foot. Not taking from the fact that Irish TV have 2 other service getting some funding BBCNI and TG4.

just checked BARB for the W/E jly 11th. They have an average audience of 28k per day in the UK. How on earth are they gonna pay RTE/2RN for transmission on Saorview? Even Keep It Country TV(granted it has some Freeview coverage) has 98k per day.

TBH I don't see them appearing on Saorview, they have taken up some of the same positions as TV3 did in the past: -

    1. They suggested they need the Minister to state they were a PSB, this happened to quickly for them IMO
    2. They went into talk with RTE
    3. They then stated it was very expensive
    4. RTE demanded a 3m bond (though this is not actually 3m)
    5. and since that we've heard nothing other than it will launch in October!

For Irish TV to survive they need Saorview and TAM. Or they remain the White Elephant of a millionaire.

I wonder how much profit irish tv are making if any? Also how long is the millionaire/billionaire going to keep pumping money into a channel with very poor ratings and low budget advertising. Can't be good for business.
