Edit: just saw you've tried calling it back.

Only numbers that have called me but barred incoming calls were banks.

Does it just keep saying call dropped or something like that? It'll be a call centre of some sort. The have banks of numbers that show up when they ring you but they dont accept incoming calls.

Dont worry OP, if it is important enough they will call you back.
If it is really important they will start a thread in After Hours.

I'm so glad I found this thread. It's the prince of Nigeria, He's stuck at the airport. I arranged to pick him up earlier, but my dog ate my car. Any chance you'd pop out and get him? If you've got a trailer big enough for a big check, bring it.

Scope of thread has expanded from one specific number to anyone ever getting a missed call from any number in cork. This could be a long thread!

Hate it when this happens - last night at 23.56 the phone went and immediately left a SMS as well from a UK number, which I took to mean it was an automated systems call from someone I didn't need to talk to. Predictably they didnt get back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,987 ✭✭✭mikeym

Did the caller ring you back op?

    Sky wouldn't have my number.

What's the problem with posting a number that cant be called ? What we gonna do call it all night for the craic ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,452 ✭✭✭✭The_Valeyard

It's either Sky about the new Q box or Upc/virgin media

    Sucker!!!!
If you're picking him up, make sure it's cash he has: I'd say his cheques could be dodgy...

I have a script running that calls random mobile numbers and the odd landline from a selection of different unused Cork numbers. It was probably one of them

Due to someone having a sense of humour there's a fairly big call centre down in Cork run by Abtran who deal with a number of things including Sky and Irish Water.

Whoever thought it was a good idea to set up a call centre where only people within a 5 mile radius of it could understand what was being said...

    Nope.

Abtran did work for them, then they (Sky) opened their own call centre in Dublin. Abtran continue to do work for them.

There are apps that can block any number that not in your phone book. Saves all the worry that you've missed something.

I've seen some stupid apps out there but that's a contender.

Never been hounded by telemarketing. I'm fairly careful with my personal information.
    Patww79 wrote: »
Why exactly? Most phones only allow you to filter out witheld numbers for blocking, it's nice to have the option to catch the rest too.

Of course it's not mandatory to use it, though your reaction is a little on the strong side. Are you a cold caller or something?

Blocking all numbers that aren't in your contact book is a stupid idea. You don't chop your arm off because you have a pain in your thumb. There are ways to prevent and/or deal with nuisance calls without having to miss some potentially very important ones.

Job interviewer, delivery guy, medical emergency, friend that changes number....the list goes on of numbers that you won't have stored in your phone but would need to call you.

I would have missed 4 important calls in the last day and a half alone. One from a doctor, one from a mechanic and 2 other private calls.

The point was not that the app is useful for everybody. The point is that it's useful for some people and is, therefore, not a stupid app.

I have anyone I want to hear from in my phone book. My phone is for my convenience, not anyone elses.

Anyway, like I said, it's not mandatory. That's the beauty of these features, they can be used to suit what you want but I'd rather have the choice than to label something I don't need as "stupid".

It's not mandatory to get upset by me labelling it stupid.

Can't go down that route after your initial overreaction. Are you sure you're not in the cold calling business?

That's the second time you've pestered me with that question. I'm not interested. Please don't call again.
