I'm not usually a fan of "adult cartoons" as opposed to animation that has an adult spin, but man this looks good.

Reminds me of Séamus and Síle McSpud from Bosco, although I don't think they used to curse as much as that potato.

How many dumbass parents are going to bring their kids to this, only to call Joe Duffy the next day? :)

    Looks like great fun.

Looks great, excellent voice cast too. So many funny clips in one trailer. I really had a good laugh at this, hope the film lives up to the trailer!

I wonder will they pull a Deadpool and play the equivalent of a green band trailer during the Den on schooldays?

Any idea when this is due ?

Laughed at the Irish Potato! As the trailer wore on (watched the Red Band) it seems built around the premise of hearing swearing in what you'd originally expect to be a kid's animated film. (worried that's all it has to offer!)

Ah, it's a little more than that.

Regardless of how good/bad it ends up being, the idea of subverting the anthropomorphism concept, that is so rife in modern animation (which isn't necessarily a bad thing) these days, is something a little new at least.

I'm a fan of the talent behind it so i'm very interested to see the final product.

One of the few trailers for a modern comedy that I've actually LOL'd at.

Hope the finished film is as good.

Does anyone else think this will probably work better as it is now, a goofy trailer like you'd see on Funny or Die? I think it will suffer from too much of the usual Rogenisms. I did love This is the End but none of their comedies since have struck the same chord.

    New trailer. Out September 2nd.

If I remember right, the previous trailer was accidentally screened before a children's movie recently.

The "family-friendly" (i.e. Christian) review site movieguide.org reviewed the film:
SAUSAGE PARTY is a raunchy, animated adult comedy about a bunch of food items that are alive and talking and the night-long adventures they undergo when they break free from the person who bought them. Filled with crude content and foul language, SAUSAGE PARTY has a strong pagan, immoral worldview marred further by a strong pro-atheist, anti-faith message.
The full review contains some spoilers, particularly in the "Content" section that details everything they find objectionable. Which is a lot.

Hilarious from start to finish, certainly has it's juvenile moments but in fairness it also pretty much nails them. The final scene had the entire cinema doubled over with laughter. Would highly recommend this!

But poor, poor Toilet Paper. :(

I had to look up those acronyms in the review:

PaPaPa – Very strong pagan worldview or pagan elements
HHH - Very strong humanist worldview or humanist elements
AbAbAb – Very strong anti-biblical, anti-Christian or anti-Jewish worldview or elements
HoHoHo – Very strong homosexual worldview or homosexual elements
LLL – Numerous obscenities and profanities (more than 25)
VV – Moderate violence (may include some blood)
SSS – Graphic adultery, promiscuity, sexual perversion, or sexual immorality
DDD – Smoking and heavy illegal drug use and/or illegal drug sales
MMM – Very strong or extreme miscellaneous immorality

Only 2 Vs, so I guess that's something?
-4 is the lowest score that they can give too. :)

Wow, they still do that? Why? They are literally giving money to piracy in the process. That is a weird, mental practice that never should have left the 90s.

I was looking forward to this (reviews I normally trust were very positive) but a lot of news has dropped today that the production may have screwed over most of their animation team, working them until they quit and cutting them from the credits despite their scenes being used in the film.

Its something I cant abide by so if that becomes more concrete I'll be skipping this.

Uproxx has more including a comment from an animator who worked at the same studio but not on Sausage Party:
This isn’t an issue of not reading the contract clearly enough. In my time there, they didn’t even offer paper contracts, (and no one except an experienced supervisor would have any negotiation room with these people in any case.)

Animation work is project based, and animators know how the law works in Vancouver. You don’t have to be paid overtime. You don’t have to be credited. It’s not fair, but its all we have. It’s accepted as normal, and I can deal with this.

However, in this case, if you choose not to work for free and don’t do this overtime, you are vindictively targeted by Greg [co-director Tiernan] and he will make your life hell in order to teach you a lesson. I have seen this first hand.

A production studio is only allotted a certain amount of credits for their artists by Sony. It’s possible he ‘ran out’ of spots for everyone. But it’s possible, (and having worked with him I would say LIKELY,) he could have used them as an ‘incentive’ for people to work unpaid overtime… Only Greg will know the truth of this.

Is Nitrogen in the wrong for forcing people to work free overtime in exchange for a film credit? No. They’re not in the wrong, they’re just a**holes.

PS: the original comments are mostly at Cartoon Brew, and repeat the same story, but also include this:
Should I still see the movie? I don't want to support awful companies, but you animators may want people to see what you made.
Movie looks great, I recommend seeing this wicked movie.
As matter of fact, we're all proud of this film, we worked our asses off, pulling long free extra hours to get the movie done on time, until we started to burn out.
Some decided to leave, some decided to stay.

    Please check out IMDB:
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1700841/fullcredits/...
there are most of animators that should've been credited.
(They've recently changed people to 'uncredited' after these articles)

Plenty language and a few funny moments, (most in the trailers), some very overt racism and rape 'jokes'. It sets out to be offensive and it is. It's not really well written enough to be offensive and good.

Far more amusing would be parents bringing kids to it because cartoon=for kids.

    just back from seeing it.

    kinda conflicted .

on the one had i was entertained big time . its just looking back i dont think i can remember really laughing out loud that much (like i did with south parks movie waaaay back when for instances)

i think the fact alot of the stuffs been seen in the trailers has hurt it.

still theres ALOT thats not been seen and its still a solid 8/10 from me. i really DID enjoy myself at it.

And by god they earned that 16 rating. the ending is just mental.

    :D

I must confess, I ended up kinda hating it by the end. Barely laughed, stone faced I was.

I really enjoyed it. It was immature and stupid for the majority with some genuinely inspired nuggets of gold, but either way it was entertaining from beginning to end.

You know what to expect from the trailers and the people involved, so if you go in with that in mind you'll more than likely enjoy yourself. If you're looking for the next Citizen Kane or something that would get Oscar nominated, maybe look elsewhere. And if you're easily offended, don't go to see this, simples...

yeah but i expected to love it !

    :D

to go back to the south park example i missed half the jokes the first time around i was laughing so much.

i didnt have that response to sausage party. still enjoyed it like i said , but its not on that level.

Probably one of the worst films I've paid to see.

I'm no film snob - I love a lot of these guys' films. This Is The End, Knocked Up, SuperBad, Pineapple Express, even Bad Neighbours and The Interview.

But this was terrible. It's the same joke over and over again - "oh look the food is cursing".

Severely disappointed, even as a fan of crude, unimaginative, stoner comedy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,813 ✭✭✭Noveight

    Saw it earlier today.

Overall, I enjoyed it. Having seen two trailers and knowing the guys in charge, I knew what to expect.

It will score 0 on a film buff's review, but had lots of laughable moments.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,793 ✭✭✭FunLover18

    It's ridiculous. Absolutely barmy.

I enjoyed it for the most part but it was too long.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

Didn't love it as much as I expected, and I do usually love movies from these guys - I think it was because it relied far too much on the gimmick of being a crude, foul mouthed movie with the appearance of a Pixar film than being an inherently good solid comedy. I chuckled once or twice but genuine laughs were pretty rare.

Still entertaining and the good definitely outweighs the bad, but I would consider it a 6/10 movie overall.

Saw it tonight. I enjoyed it well enough, but there were long stretches with no laughs at all (not even a smile). The setup for the sequel was good fun though.
