Trim/tilt carbon brushes

Is there any handy place that sells these ready made or should I just buy a slightly bigger set and file them down to size? It is for a Mariner 60 (~ 1998)?

Are they notoriously short-lived? The fact that they're worn to almost nothing makes me wonder what the previous owner was doing with it, they'll surely run for quite a few hours before needing new brushes

They are easy to sand down to fit if you can't get the right size, with a lot of power tools these days you often get a spare set so worth checking you boxes.
Check the armature on the motor where the brushes make contact it could be rough or pitted causing them to wear down give it a rub with very fine sandpaper and it should help.
