Have to say I don't, think its all a steaming pile of bs, from a time when people weren't as well educated and it was used to frighten/scare/keep people in their place.

    What say you?

When I was about 10, I'm convinced I saw one. It was a man all dressed in black. I came down one night for a glass of milk and he was just sitting in front of the TV. He had this strange grey hair, even though he wasn't very old.

and what happened? Was the glass there the next day? Was it a dream?

I believe that people genuinely believe they see stuff, they don't make it up....but some minds are more easily manipulated than others and will go for the paranormal explanation rather than a logical one. There is usually an reasonable explanation for most stuff if people bother to look. On the other hand stories like jan van eycks on the creepy/unnerving thread....well i just don't know to begin explaining that one. Creepy ****.

Surely that can be explained by the mind deteriorating as it shuts down?

Live with a phantom crapper meself.

No one ever admits to leaving them in our downstairs dunny, no flush, no paper either.

    Has to be a ghost.

Did he have a box of milk tray in his hands?

It's bull, nowadays everyone has a camera in their pocket all the time yet the only "evidence" that is ever showed is old photos taken with crappy cameras from the 70's and further back.

The ghosts are becoming tech-savvy and camera shy?

    Doh.

I never used to until I went along to Loftus Hall for the tour. I was only going for a laugh and for something to do- I'm a very logical and analytical minded person who would have always dismissed ghosts as the creation of the vulnerable or distressed.
Then I got to tour Loftus Hall and I never felt so threatened and uneasy in my entire life. The place has a malevolence to it that is beyond description. The rooms glow with the awful history of the house from black satanic masses to the horribly unnerving Tapestry Room.
I was very shaken after leaving the tour and i put it down to theatrics or placebo effect, so I went back for a daytime tour and again all the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end for the entire hour. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Not even the OWNER is allowed upstairs as the spirits slam doors and hiss in his face.

So yes I'm a recent convert to the idea of an afterlife!

If you want a logical explanation there's always one available. However there is no more evidence the brain does this than there is for ghosts.
The similarities between them is the part I'd find interesting.

Yeah, logic is my go to answer for most things.

I have been having weird dreams lately.
In my house, you would hear when someone got up at night or was walking on carpet covered wooden floors (not solid upstairs - old house), but lately I have been asleep and I keep hearing in my sleep the routine that sounded exactly like my mother's when she got up at night, she was a bit noisy in her older years.
The room is next to mine, and I hear someone walking across the floor loudly, opening the door to and using the bathroom to the point of flushing the toilet, then heading back to bed.

I have to put it down to some mental thing that is comforting to my brain, as it gives me a feeling of her still being around.
Because if what I hear in my sleep is real, that would be weird.

But they were Banshee's and fairies not ghosts and people weren't stupid back then just that they had to make their own entertainment.

OP,is it not easier to keep an open mind than rule it all out as a pile of crap as you say.By the way, seen that you thought that my recent experience I told last night on the creepy thread was rubbish, then I am willing to give you the money to visit the place yourself as I did and you can see how you get on.

I don't believe in them at all but my sister and her partner used to live in a house share with another couple. One night I was staying over and got up in the night for a drink. A woman in a white dressing gown came into the kitchen. I said hello, she said get out of my house. My sister was adamant the other couple were away for the night and I imagined it. I reckon she was covering for her housemates rudeness.

I only wish I was as capable of a withering put-down as Mr Hitchens was.

No, I've no belief in any of this stuff. It's either projection, imagination, sleep deprivation/paralysis, lucid dreaming, willingness to believe, some other psychological issue, or a combination of some or all.

I know this because my guardian angel told me via the medium of tea leaves.

Its rubbish talk, No such thing as ghosts or paranormal stuff. You know someones mind is going when they start saying they saw ghosts ufos or any of that mumbo jumbo.

You can't prove a negative- the onus is to prove they DO exist

Maybe all the oestrogen in the water makes people gay like the crazy lady said on Vincent Brown that time. Without proof I don't have to give it credence

Plenty of evidence, depends if you believe it or not.
Unless you trap one in a box and display it on the Six One you're unlikely to get the proof you require.

    No, there isn't.

Just nonsense masquerading as evidence that the pre-convinced accept at face value.

Given the supposed nature of the thing the only evidence you're going to get are peoples stories of sightings. So we're back to if you believe it or not.
I posted a link earlier of sightings by medical staff, presumably intelligent, level headed and not given to drama. You can call them crazy or keep an open mind ,the choice is yours.

See, none of that is evidence. Evidence is something incontrovertible, not just something someone thinks they saw.

It's not about being crazy or having an open mind, it's about making claims for evidence where none exists. Someone's opinion is not evidence, and the plural of anecdote is not evidence.
