I don't think getting rid of threads like the Booze megathread is a good idea. Its a great resource for those who shop around and go where the deals are.

Booze superthread is fine to keep because you know that the latest deal is going to be some sort of "Booze". If you are not looking for booze then you won't click into it, if you are then you will. You can more-or-less predict the content of the latest entry as being booze-related.

Some superthreads on other "non-bargain" forums are fine as well because again the subject matter is predictable: "Xbox Deals with Gold" for example (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056144176&page=201). You know the latest entry is going to be the latest "Deal with Gold".

Amazon/Argos/Ali Express sell loads of different things, so something might get posted that's relevant to you, but because the subject line is "Amazon Bargain Alerts" you don't know what is it without clicking into it only to discover there are 15 comments and somewhere in there is the latest bargain... oh wait it's cheap PC memory, wow that was a waste of time.

Comments are good, and often helpful way to find out about a bargain, so it's a shame that the comments in super-threads are getting in the way of finding out what the specific bargain is in the first place.

Having a separate thread for chat is already done for Argos anyway (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057116666&page=330), but doesn't it overcomplicate things to have multiple chats about multiple different bargains in the same long chat thread?

Looking at that thread it seems people are just posting bargains in there instead of the original Argos bargain alert thread.

What if the few people that can answer the question that you asked didn't see your post as they weren't logged in before another 10 posts appeared in the chat thread making your original post disappear into the ether?

Doesn't help that great swathes of posters had no clue the thing even existed.

I agree. At the same time its not as if this wasn't pointed out the the mods on the day the poll was added and then 2 days later when it wasn't getting any traffic. See page 1.

I don't envy the mods having to arbitrate the results of this poll. A large section want nothing changed whereas an even larger section want something changed but there isn't consensus on what that change should be.

While I completely agree with the rest of the post you made, I have no sympathy with the mods in the having to arbitrate the results of the poll. They have refused to engage with the forum users to ensure an open and fair debate with NO effort to get clarity on what the majority of users want.

And yet the people who actually go to the bother of posting bargains continue to use the Megathreads.

Thankfully not. The people who post actual bargains seem to create new threads.

Cheap packs of Yorkie Buttons (in the Amazon thread) and cheap Screen Cleaning Solution (in the Argos thread) are hardly what one would consider postworthy bargains.

And maybe that's a good thing.. if we can assume the people that use superthreads just post small stuff like this then we've nothing to worry about :D

    Well then, problem solved.

Poll should be rendered invalid because questions were biased, and method was unorthodox.

Participants were able to choose more than one replies, often contradicting. For example, answers Keep Megathreads for supermarket and Leave as they are but close Amazon thread could be selected in combination with either Yes or No.

The worst part, piling these answers up and presenting them with a percentage split is completely unrealistic because you are counting a single user's multiple selections as multiple individual votes.

    Absolute nonsense..
The Poll is perfectly usable with this simply formula.

    WxAx4=(d/33-s) pi*s, PxOXORx2

What is the issue with translating the results ???

    What a joke.

The first thread on here about superthreads was started by Thargor on the 12th February (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showt...?t=2057560229)

Then a poll that I set up on 25th February (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showt...?t=2057565487)

Then a thread in the Feedback forum started on the 5th of March (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showt...?t=2057569213)

And finally the sticky thread on BA started on 10th March and then a poll secretly added to it on the 13th May. (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showt...?t=2057571248)

The poll closed about a month ago.

    Still no action. Joke.

    Think this deserves a bump

Just saw a thread for an amazon bargain that could potentially save you hundreds of thousands over 18+ years closed because "There's already an Amazon bargains thread. Closed."

    Amazon: deals on Condoms

A 5 month old thread in BA where people are chatting about stations and apps on their telly...
Once expired a thread should be closed, no need for 26 pages of posts about a TV that Argos had on a special

The same logic group who closed that thread, will have to assess megathreads too. Actually, imho they have already assessed megathreads, and decided to ignore us :p

Why don't you just ignore it like every other person with sense

On a serious note now, I suggest reddit as an alternative. Have a look at the Amazon UK Deals subreddit as an example.

For the ones that haven't used reddit before, some key features:
intelligent ranking algorithm (based on up/down votes and post age)
        six ways to sort posts
automatic archiving (submissions older than 6 months can't get votes/comments)

I've set-up our own subreddit (currently very empty  ) https://www.reddit.com/r/BargainsIreland/

Let me know what you think :)

Why is the Amazon thread closed?

      Still a joke.

Mods: 'Lets set up a really unclear poll, put it in the most obscure place so that people don't know about it. Once the poll is over lets just ignore that it took place and hope the issue goes away. Lets not offer any reasonable input into the conversation that has taken place.'

      Joke.

Actually they had two polls. But it's clear that the only action you'll be happy with is the one that matches what you want so it doesn't really matter what the mods are doing.

Closing this for the moment, if further changes to be made I will reopen.

Please PM the mods or use the report function if you want to contact us.

      Regards
      Davy.
