How to cancel one passenger from an Aer Lingus group booking?

This is not about travel insurance, I just want to cancel one passenger from an Aer Lingus booking for four people travelling in May to a European city. The booking was made direct by me.

I booked a European flight for four people travelling out and back in May 2016 on the Aer Lingus website and I now need to cancel one of the passengers who cannot travel due to illness. I have the booking reference and I can see the booking on the AL website but for the life of me I can't see how to cancel one passenger which by the way is not the lead (first named) passenger.

Can anyone advise how to do this please?

There is no option to cancel as flights are non refundable. When they don't show up on the day it will make no difference to the booking. Just proceed on as planned.

I could be completely mistaken but is the tax element not refundable when you cancel a flight? So OP would lose the fare but could reclaim the taxes paid?

Yes they could claim the tax but depending on how much the tax was they may end up with nothing as the airlines take a hefty administration fee for doing this. Currently €20.

The Irish Govt abolished the Travel Tax.

    So there are no taxes.

What taxes are you referring to?

Tax at the other end. For arriving and departing the other European City. However as has already been said it may not be worth it after the admin fee is applied.

I was referring to taxes and charges in general which are refundable if cancelled. But I wasn't aware of the admin charge that effectively could wipe out any refund due. My understanding was always the only part that was "non refundable" was the actual fare and booking charges etc could be reclaimed where a flight was cancelled.

I'm not sure about aer Lingus but ryanair don't refund airport charges, only government charges.

Have you got travel insurance? That would be my first port of call.

If that fails contact Aer-Lingus directly and perhaps ask them instead for the value as voucher rather than a refund, they might be more open to it.
