Just listening on the radio and apparently you cant get potato pies in chippers outside of Cork??? Find it hard to believe. Their just potato with herbs and sometimes cheese and maybe even bacon, battered and deep fried. I know spice bags are popular in Dublin and a few other areas.

Anything i'm missing out on ?

It's a batter burger in a bun with all the usual dressings. Actually very tasty but you wouldn't be long getting heart issues if it was a regular thing.

As for a potato pie, wtf?

Chippers (I just can't say chippies) over here will do a "meat and chips". It's a lump of sliced donor meat with chips in a box, throw in some of the usual kebab salad bits with chili sauce and it's actually nice

Rissoles in wexford, deep fried breadcrumbed or battered herbed mash potato

No no no... not the same thing as taco fries! I've had meat and chips in the UK and it doesn't live up to a good taco fries you get here!

But we do have the chips + kebab meat and trimmings in a tray here. We just call it a kebab tray.

Wexford has the rissole (batter or breadcrumb) and they also do rissole burgers now

    whurley burger as mentioned above.

And deep fried pudding, dont know if that is exclusive but its the business.

So what's the difference. Do they serve it up plain and you add the taco stuff yourself if you want.

Plain meat and chips seems boring.

Guy who first brought it up described it as being identical to what we call a kebab tray here :)

It's essentially the meat, salad and sauces from a standard doner kebab put with chips in a tray. Quite delicious.

    Your understanding is correct.

As an aside, I had chipper last night and this thread is increasing the likeliness of it happening again tonight. The missus is away for 2 weeks after all...

We need to incorporate pizza crunch and haggis into our chipper menu

Yeah it's a better name for it. My local Turkish chipper calls it a "Doner meat meal"
    Not appetizing!

    Where do you live?

Every chipper I've ordered from in Dublin has called it a kebab tray.

4 Lights/Lanterns in Buncrana, Letterkenny, Donegal Town, and Sligo.

Well worth the visit. Not mad on the Kebab Tray though.

I imagine it was on menus but some people just never noticed it. I saw it for years but never knew what it was. They suffer the same as chinese takeaways which usually have no descriptions of what the dish is.

Tasty tray is another, which is usually bacon and cheese and garlic sauce on top of chips. They are usually in the long foil trays you get a chow mein or 3in1 from a Chinese.
