Contact amazon via email or chat.

Thanks for the reply. Would they have any issue with me being Irish?

Same here, didn't expect it, didn't pick it up (nest protect)

Just got to play with it now

Once I added the Nest skill it picked up the Thermostat straight away, voice control can turn the heat up or down

It hasn't picked up the Protect alright but maybe they will add that in future?

Does this not mean that it is a US Echo now, rather then a UK one?

I found that by setting it to US, a bunch of stuff stopped working, actually this might be the solution to Basq's issues!

Doesnt seem to be any difference for me between the US and UK languages other than Alexas accent. Same skills available, does the same stuff etc.

Thanks a lot Degsie! The guy walked me through it and I now have working with Spotify etc.

Had a great laugh with the kids, they love it. The wife has her BBC stations, so she's happy too.

Got my echo today and was just wondering does anyone use it to launch tasker tasks?

Gonna get this for Christmas. Do you have to order via parcel motel to get around the non delivery to Ireland issue? If so is it an oversized item (as in has to be collected from the PM depot) or does it fit in the usual parcel motel containers?

Has anyone been able to get the weather working for the flash briefing? If so, what address did you use in the settings?

I can get the weather to work if I say, "Alexa what's the weather in Dublin?"

But even with my location, in the settings, accepted - it doesn't seem to work with the flash briefing?

    I meant the Echo though!

Nope, it doesn't work if you set an Irish address.

I probably should have referenced it but I did mean an Echo will fit no bother

Mine was packaged with a TP Link wifi plug and fitted fine

I'd no problem with parcel motel and the dot

Noob to wifi bulbs here. Is it possible to get a bulb that I can still control with my dimmer switch but also control via my echo dot or harmony hub?

I agree. I have both an Echo and a Dot 2. The Dot 2 is hooked up to fantastic Audio Engine 5 speakers (top of the range powered bookshelf speakers) and while they are obviously fantastic sound quality, we still use the Echo in the living room all day to listen to Spotify and find it more then good enough.

There is definitely something to be said for the simplicity of an all in one solution and not having to deal with separate speakers, bluetooth, power, etc.

It is interesting to note that Google Home has no equivalent of a Dot.

Note that Amazon have recently announced that the Echo will shortly work with Sonos speakers - which will be awesome. It is already possible to issue a command to ALexa to play music via Sonos speakers (using the Yonomi App - which is similar to ITTT) but direct integration will be fantastic given that Echo is also integrated with Spotify and Amazon Music

Also has anyone else's tunein broken? All of a sudden i cant get newstalk or todayfm with tunein when I could before.

Did you change your region from US to UK? I believe that will screw up TuneIn for Irish stations.

Just randomly started working, or what settings did you change?

Can anyone get Lifx bulbs working? The skill discovers the bulb but no commands work at all, even using Yonomi. If anyone has figured how to get passed this I'd appreciate any help!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭ipnface

I figured it out. You can't discover devices in the app or web service, even though they appear. You have to verbally ask Alexa to "Discover devices" then Lifx commands work.
