benefit fraud

I would like to know what the penalty would be ..
I know a girl that had a child to a fella he left her before the child was born and she took him back a few years later ..she is claiming to be a single mother is getting benefits and a house paid for .. He is living with her and the child now over 2 years and she still gets these benefits and he is out working taking home a wage .. what will happen if they are caught ?

She'll be brought to court and possibly jailed. You are made pay back the money you claimed fraudulently.

What happens to him is she not getting allowance because he had left her alone for the first 3 years .. Is some of the money she was paid not meant to be paid by him to raise his child will they go after him as well to get that money back that he should of been paying ?

It's nothing to do with him if she's claiming benefits.
How do you know he hasn't been paying maintenance?

How do you know what benefits she gets?

Report them please. It is unfair to all of us, especially if the country is broke. I'd rather not see my taxes squandered on wasters.

Why don't you get your ladder and put it up to the bedroom window and find out what they are doing, if you haven't got ladder you could fone a friend.

People who are in receipt of any type of benefit, are always told to inform the relevant authority if there is any change in their circumstances.

Both the girl and fella are complicant in fraud here, but situations like this are happening all over the country.

You can do what many do, and say nothing. Some even champion these type of people for doing it.

Or you can get annoyed, see that these people are taking money from the Gov coffers that could go into the health service, prevent cuts to vunerable, pay for more SNAs in schools, etc etc.

Your call.

Social welfare will have asked for his details and would have made her get maintenance so it's likely she hasn't been honest with them.
Though as I've already asked, how do you know he wasn't giving her cash?

Your question was what happens if you fraudulently claim benefits and the answer is the claimant will be the one to get into trouble.

I know he wasnt giving her anything.. Just seems to be the people out doing a days work is worse off than these type of people

How do you know he's living with her! Single mothers have a human right to be aloud a partner stay over some nights. Do you know they are shacked up together every single night, living under the same roof 24/7.

Do you see them getting into bed together every night. Does this other guy have his own place and own bills. I understand your concerns about your taxes (though I think its more jealously) but if you don't know the whole ins and outs of their lives then I think you should but out. Its a difficult world out there and its made a lot worse with people like you in it butting your nose in other peoples lives. Something that I never or will never do is butt my nose into how people live their lives or ever be jealous about others.

Don't you know, them precious seconds/hours/days your wasting on that pure negative emotions, they could be spent on positive thoughts on how to make your own life better. Why drink poison and expect others to die when you can live a joyish life.

You people really need to get your own life in order before looking at others.

My post in no way condones fraud but I hate and detest people wanting to cause others problems and maybe starting rumors!!!

The fraudsters are the bankers and corrupt politicians that thrived over the last 5 years. NAMA Siteserve INM and all the other write off's given to friends and supporters. Welfare fraud is small change according to the Department.

You mentioned your taxes paying for fraud,you do realise the biggest fraud carried out in this economy every year is tax evasion/fraud don't you?
As said by someone already, social welfare fraud is very small potatoes in the grand scale of the economy. Tax fraud however is costing us billions.

Its a bit ridiculous the way this argument has been going. The issue is not whether this particular couple are doing what the OP think they are doing. Maybe they do, maybe they don't, they probably do, who cares. The issue is that there are people doing what the OP thinks they are doing. Do the defenders of the accused couple here have an issue with the lack of proof or whatever on that particular couple or do they advocate turning a blind eye on this type of behaviour in general? Lets hear it.

The welfare bill is huge btw. How can anyone come out saying this is only pennies and the real fraudsters are elsewhere? For the record I agree to some extent but it doesn't make the other thing right does it?

Consider the issue of Corporate Welfare also. Companies who can well afford to pay their staff will instead pay them low and have them claim FIS for the balance.

We all seen Benefits Street. Still waiting to see Tax Dodgers Street. Cronyism Street. Overpaid Public Servants Street. That's where the real scumbags are. Not in Single Parent Street.

We don't know exactly what he knows. Maybe he does know for sure, he's already said that this person brags about it. You seem as intent on him ignoring this which makes me automatically suspicious about you. So if he does report it and it's investigated and he's found to be wrong what harm is done?

Direct your criticism for welfare fraud at the system itself. There are enough brains amongst us in this country to build a robust system that is bullet proof against fraud. But we don't.

Instead we have unfortunately a majority of completely incompetent and grossly overpaid public service staff in this area, with very few knowing how to do their job. The system is rife with nepotism. And it is extremely hard to get rid of them.
