Are You An Interesting Person?

Yesterday evening, a newish friend asked me how a project I've been working on for over a year has been going. I foolishly made the mistake of telling him.

He made his escape when I paused for breath, and I was left to think about the truth. And that truth is, I'm really quite boring.

Most of the things that really interest me, most people find boring. Most people outside my circle would consider my job boring although I love it, and I can talk at length about things I'm interested in without even realising I'm boring everyone. Don't get me wrong I have a couple of interesting things going on so I'm not a totally lost cause, but mostly I'm boring. I'm OK with that.

Do you have boring interests or a boring job? A boring hobby? Do people glaze over when you talk about something you think is riveting? Or are you interesting and fun and hold large audiences in thrall with tales of your exploits? What incredible things do you do that make you the fabulous company that you are?

I think most people are quite interesting, in some way. If most of you aren't funner than a car full of clowns on ecstasy, then my names not Candie Von Crackhousen

Depends on my mood really. People like being around me when I'm loud and happy.

Most people will try and steer the conversation towards something they like.
Myself and a friend were talking about gaming a few weeks ago when someone else came up and asked if we talk about anything else.
Then they launched into a speech about how their preferred football team was doing and how playful their cat is.

Just need to try and talk about something everyone likes.

I dunno if I am interesting but I have a great collection of anecdotes from my life that seem to entertain people. At my expense.

I think often the problem lies with the listener and their capacity for finding things interesting.. Some people just won't care unless you talk endlessly about the premier league or some other banal ****e

I thought I was being interesting talking about my work to my friend, it was quite the downer to realise I'd bored him! :)

I think I certainly have a wide range of interests myself. I find everyone and everything fascinating and I'm curious about everything. But most people find me boring or plain.

    It's not me, it's them :P

First you say "yeah grand" in case they're being polite
Then if they actually care you go into a bit of detail

Not at all, to be completely fair to him he was very polite and didn't yawn in my face or bolt for the door, it was just a realisation while I was talking away that he had no real interest in what I was talking about, and had only asked to be polite. :)

No really but people get a good laugh when I tell them some things I've done or things that happened to me.anyway it's all down to the individual themselves and how they articulate themselves.for example I've one friend who's 28,lives at home, has only been out of the country twice and can't drive or do most adult type things.he's one of the most interest and funny people I've met tho.has a PhD in history and teaches English. Speaks with passion and always describes stories in interesting ways and notices things others wouldn't.
I've another friend,a medical professional.has been all over the world and done adventurous stuff, played all types of sports etc and he'd bore the pants off ya.you feel like his life has just been a lot of box ticking.

I think I'm pretty boring actually. I haven't done anything amazing except live and teach in London and perform in musicals. Other than that I'm just a teacher and I live with 3 cats.

I love listening to stories from people who have done something impressive like travelling abroad, studying something different or making something.

Most likely one of the least interesting people you're likely to meet.

I haven't achieved anything spectacular, I haven't travelled to any faraway lands. I don't have a wealth of knowledge on an array of subjects. I'm really a very unremarkable person. I can be funny at times which is probably the only reason I can hold anyone's interest for more than five minutes but I'm sure that wears thin. I'm grand for an aul chat, but you're unlikely to learn anything from me or leave my company inspired!

I don't mind though, I have other redeeming qualities :D

Nope. I contemplated keeping a diary when I was younger but gave up when I realised I would have f*ck all to put in it.

If its worth anything to you I find your posts interesting.

Personally I think I lead a varied and interesting life which most people would find interesting, but once I start talking I usually bore people to tears lol (I think).

I think my avatar is interesting, its me (in blue) fighting in a recent competition.

To be fair on myself, no. He did ask questions and interject, so I assumed his interest was genuine at first.

I guess he's just very good at being polite, but I still picked up on his lack of interest eventually.

You think you're bad? I don't really have any hobbies at all, but I like to think that I can sometimes talk quite boringly about other people's hobbies.

    Well, aren't you lovely. :)

You probably bore yourself because you know it all, and everyone else finds you interesting because it's new to them.

I think about this too... if someone made a movie about my life, it would a) be the shortest movie ever and b) the most boring movie!

Yes, I'm an interesting person. I emerged from the dark lands of East Galway, excelled academically, and now work at the cutting edge of wealth management in Frankfurt.

I'm also extremely well read, travelled and quite the bon vivant.

Judging from how people respond to your posts on boards I think people at the very least find your opinions ones they agree with. I would say it's a small step from there to having interesting opinions.

I Wouldn't be fr stone boring but I've had a good few odd experiences that hold people's attention, witnessed a UFO once, found the 96fm fugitive, worked in theatre before, some crazy things I have witnessed in there.
Can hold conversations in plenty of things, motorcycles, Star Wars, Starcraft (currently place no 1 in a platinum league), poultry, general gaming, gardening, European soccer leagues, snow holidays, bee keeping, film scores etc, In the middle of a second college degree Aswell. I suppose overall I'm a middle of the road sort folk so I strive to maintain this mediocrity I live and I'm happy with that.
But life is such that we click with some and not others, so my interesting or boring is not necessarily the next persons interesting boring.

No.I'm incredibly boring and I find real life in general to be fairly boring as well.

In truth if it wasn't for TV, films and books I'd have nothing to live for.

I think mainstream opinions that people agree with are boring in so much as they're nothing extraordinary.

Interesting opinions would be outside the ordinary, and I have plenty of those but on the subjects of my work and things I am involved in, which many people would find uninteresting.

I'm not sure if I said any of that in an understandable way!

That is exactly what I was trying, but obviously failing to say! I'm interesting to people in my small field and they to me.

Outside of that and the related interests I have, I'm not that interesting to know and there's nothing remarkable or notable about me.

I think I've done a few sort of interesting things, but I'd say my interests make me boring. I have a knack for being interested in things that interest very few other people, and not being interested in the things that interest them, so for the life of me I can't do small-talk. This tends to make me shy in social situations with strangers and although I can fake it if I have to (if I'm in the right mood), I'm not an ice-breaker or a first-move type. Once I relax with people, though, I can be pretty good company.

For example, I remember once in my 20's slow dancing in a night-club with a girl from Hungary. My killer pick-up line was to ask her what changes she had noticed in day-to-day life since the fall of communism. Yep, went home alone that night...
