Personal Trainer advice

    Hi Ladies,

I've 5 weddings to attend this summer, and overall think I'd be happier if I could lose a bit of weight before hand. First one is in Marbella in 3 months so I'm realistic that I can only loose so much in that time but I feel like maybe 20lbs may be achievable, and would make a tremendous difference to my appearance.

I'm one of these people who is always a bit of a struggler with my weight. Sometimes I feel fine about it, sometimes not. My diet is reasonable most of the time, and thankfully over time I've lost my taste for junk like mcdonalds and burger king, and mostly cook from scratch at home these days. Honestly my downfall is the off packet of crisps and eating out/drinking wine at the weekends.

I;m thinking that maybe a trainer might make the difference, and give me focus.

Does anyone have any experiences or anyone the could recommend in South County Dublin? Would I have to join a gym or are there trainers I can work with without gym membership? I'd like a female trainer if possible.

Hi, I use a guy on Pearse Street. I know he's not South County Dublin, or female, but he gets really good results consistently and is pretty reasonable as far as PT courses cost. He also runs a body slim project which is meant to be unreal. Can PM you on details if you'd like? (I don't want to be seen as advertising him!)

MOD: Hi, I've moved this thread over to the Fitness forum as you'll get more relevant advice here. Take note of the new charter.

Someone's gonna recommend dominic, but last time I checked he was a dude!!

....so should talk to his protege, Siobhan. Really nice girl who knows her stuff :)

Thanks, this looks good! Perfect area for me too, I just live down the road.

Female trainer is not an absolute must - just a preference really.

Also - do you think my goals are achievable without giving up my life altogether? I really enjoy a bit of Red at the weekends, but can probably sacrifice the crisps!

Speaking from experience, the "worse off" you are from a weight perspective, the less you'll have to give up to see progress.

You can absolutely have a few glasses of wine and still lose weight, but if you're putting away bottles of wine and cheeseboards you'll struggle :)

True enough - 20lbs wouldnt be an overall target, but just a nice round number to aim for before wedding season! Would probably equate to a dress size or two which would make me feel a lot better!

Thankfully I'm reasonably disciplined about what food I keep in the house - its being out of the house that gets me into trouble! Also my BF can eat whatever he wants and not gain an ounce so he's a bit of a bad influence.

A cheese board would be a rare treat! I'd avocado on toast for breakfast and will be making (from scratch) sweet and sour prawns with brown rice for dinner - hopefully my future trainer will approve!

There's also Jennie Mayberry in Sandyford too.

Thanks - looked her up - seems a bit on the bodybuilding end of the scale for me? I don't want to turn into some sort of fitness buff, just a bit of an improvement :)

I get that, her main clientele are 'regular folk' though and she's a very knowledgeable PT, and just to offer you an alternative.

I don't know her but I'm pretty sure there isn't a snow ball's chance in hell of that happening unless you want it to. Even then, you'd be blessed (or cursed) if it did.

Thanks - still worth considering so - I guess I just didnt want to be missmatched with someone too intense, as my worry is that unless I can come up with something I can easily stick to, that my chances of keeping to it long term (beyond the weddings) would be pretty slim. I don't want to lose the weight (because I've lost it before!) only to put it back on by going back to a more sedentary lifestyle.

Definitely worth considering one of the CrossFit gyms in Sandyford so.

The community / fun element makes it very easy to stick too.

You get coaching in each class like a PT would do too.

If nothing else check out their websites and have a chat to them.
