I find the idea of limiting fruit when dieting really odd.

It's mostly very low in calories, full of water and nutrients.

Yes, there are some natural sugars, but I find it hard to believe that fruit consumption could hinder weight loss very much.

    1 cup blackberries = 62 cals

    And they're delicious!

Agreed but there still has to be a limit. A normal sized banana would have >100 calories, same for avocado >300, raisins are pretty calorie dense too (~300 per 100g). Depends how large your appetite is and what your calorie goals are.

For the vast majority of people it's not an issue nor did fruit cause their weight gain, but if you want to 'get shredded' then you have to think about it.

    Why?
Even natural food has calories, an "unlimited" amount of any source of calories is not a good idea when dieting.
It's mostly very low in calories, full of water and nutrients.

    1 cup blackberries = 62 cals
    Key word "mostly".
Which means that some of it isn't low in calories. and some isn't Blackberries and other berries are fine, within reason.

For example, A cup of banana is maybe 200cals. A cup of avocado, 380 cals. Dried fruit could be 400-500 calories. A single durian fruit contains over 1000 calories (fair enough they are big).

Berries, knock you self out. Bananas, be accountable.
It's not uncommon for people to post weight loss woes, then their diet reveals that they are eating 6 pieces of fruit a day because it's "healthy"
