Oh Jasus. They'll be going cheap in a few years. Bad idea from Pino Harris, it will knock the arse out of the resell value when the market is flooded with them.

very heroic of An Post to carry out beta testing in the field.
...genuinely, I think it should work out fine.

I suspect they'll rust even more than other vans which rust more than cars but An Post won't care as a van has a design life which is shorter than a car.

Ah might not be so bad to get the vans out there. If people see the postman happily running the vans, they may consider one for themselves if the price is right.
To be fair, was there ever a post van that held any value when an post were finished with them.

There's a big thread on them on here somewhere

I'd say he's delighted to actually sell a few of them. Plus having them scattered across the country has to be good for keeping the dealer network (such as it is) putting them back together. It also gives the model visibility and a bit of credibility.

They are like the child of a Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter. No actual pricing on the Ldv.ie website for them which is odd, looks like they are perhaps only catering for the large fleet buyer. Looks to be made in China...

    Royal Mail have them too...

    That's a 2006 British built one though
There was another thread about this van model recently.

The half wrap job on those an post vans is pretty shabby looking. Looks like they just wrapped from the sliding door back, and the colour doesn't match the body.

Ya the front section is a very depressing shade of white in comparison to the back

Commercial motor magazine in uk had road test on these last week , basically said you get what you pay for .
Engine noisy on start up , transmission not smooth and generally not comfortable on long runs.
Positions on things in cab and aftermarket blue tooth also came in for criticism.

still wish Harris best of luck with them , wonder how he will get on with the Chinese coaches he is selling ?

    Is he selling King Long's?
    They're actually quite cool.

doubt it considering they will be lucky to shift all those LDV vans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

Lucky? I'm seeing them everywhere in Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,700 ✭✭✭goochy

are you hanging around post offices ?? lol . the sales figures don't suggest they are selling great and the amount in stock. but as I say best of luck to them.
The fact that they are a british van made in china is kind of interesting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

It's even more complicated than a British van made in china. LDV didn't design the Maxus

Sales figures here. Note the Dublin and Westmeath figures.

As colm points out they're selling well in certain places. Given the amount that have arrived into the holding yard in the past couple of weeks I suspect they have a lot of deliveries for the new year lined up. Fair play if they can sell them and have good backup. Nice to see an Irish importer doing something different and do it well.

For vans is there no Euro NCAP crash tests?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,700 ✭✭✭goochy

They bought in 3,000 vans when they took in the franchise for UK and Ireland , I believe they haven't been crashed tested going by reports in oz

Yes can't see anything on the Euro NCAP site, looks like all full spec vans are exempt.

For anyone feeling brave they had an all electric one there but haven't seen it lately

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

They crash tested them in Australia I think?

    Heck!,

Hinos were trucking stone in the '60s ( B.D. Flood had some fleet of them up in Cavan/Meath )

Does that mean Mr Harris has not just a free travel pass but a dog eared one ?

    Good for him !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,700 ✭✭✭goochy

the lack of crash tests would explain lack of minibus ? Ldv were always big in minibus circles.
Don't know much about van prices , are they much cheaper than mainstream brands ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 552 ✭✭✭enumbers

what deal was pulled to get an post to buy them really odd call when you see how closely priced they are to the competition

They will have got them for buttons. Also keep in mind that a few years ago there was a European van shortage. You just couldn't get new vans in any numbers.

how do they compare price wise to Transit etc. ?

also on the Harris front ( I know this has been discussed before but no definite answer ) can Hino large trucks not be sold in this country anymore ?

still selling the Hino tippers & 8 wheelers i thnk. They dont really do much in the artic market though one of Dunnes Stores hauliers has a niceish looking Hino tractor unit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,700 ✭✭✭goochy

don't do much in tippers either , see Man etc. more so

the box bodies and pick ups seem to be finding a bit of a niche, haven't passed Harris's place for a while , still full of stock ?

hes also selling a Chinese tipper truck called Sino ! as its being imported in low volume it doesn't need to meet emissions of other brands.

I'm seeing lots of them on the road. I think they are being aimed more at small businesses rather than fleets now.

SAIC MG are doing similar with the GS in the uk by keeping sales volumes below 1000 in 12 months to get around certaim conformity regs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,700 ✭✭✭goochy

I still think their marketing is terrible , they should be appealing to white van man by advertising in tabloids - sponsoring sports programmes and maybe sponsor league of Ireland team .

Are you seeing the normal vans or pick up / luton bodies ?
I check D Dennehy in corks facebook page and hes selling a few lutons/ pick ups - seems they have crew cabs / minibuses too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,617 ✭✭✭ba_barabus

I've seen a full spread tp be honest, especially arpund Dublin. Luton bodies seem to be getting used as road/motorway servoce vehicles near me in Tipp. A good few vans cropping up too. Still no reports good or bad from any actual users or owners.
