No, it's not just ten minutes. The one you saw would be just 10 minutes, and then there would be the one after that, and the one after that, and the one after that. You could pick up an offence every 60 seconds on the M50, between speeding, phoning/texting, dodgy lights, failure to indicate. If they stop every offence, they'll never get anywhere.
Surely that is part of their job. You either enforce all the rules or noneof the rules. :(

If they enforce ALL the traffic rules ALL the time, it is ALL of their job. If they stop every speeding driver, they NEVER get to deal with any burglary or give evidence in Court or chase down the bad guys through the CAB or whatever.

RSA 2013 survey shows 82% cars exceeding speed limit on urban roads (in 50km/h zones). Do you really expect every Garda car to stop four out of five cars on the road on every journey?

You dont need to stop every car. Stop enough and people expect to be caught and slow down.

Right now you can speed home 100 days in a row and not get caught, and even if you do that small FCPN is "worth it". If you knew youd be caught once a week, youd stop.

I agree with your objective, but I don't think we have enough Garda cars on the planet to achieve it.

More camera vans, and cameras on traffic lights to detect red light jumping is the real solution here.

Armed units cruising around in Q7s and 530ds don't seem interested in any motoring offences from what I've seen.

those boys have different targets in mind. Also I would find it pretty intimidating to be pulled by a guard carrying a sub machine-gun for doing 55 in a 50 or stopping in a yellow box.

That's not what I mean I've seen red light jumpers and many other offences.

Intimidating? They don't hold the sub's all the time they would have there glock on the side alright.

Where are they going exactly that is so pressing? When does an offence become worth it to stop? Certain amount of points? Certain fine threshold?

Like I said in my second post, if someone goes past a Garda car, blues blazing at 4am on the side of the M50 it sends a strong message of 'The Gardai never sleep' That has a lasting psychological effect as if the same driver was thinking of putting the foot down the next time because its the middle of the night, they might think twice. For me, seeing last night, I can confidently say I can pretty much do anything I want except speed because they couldn't give a rashers.

How long does it take to explain to someone they are in the wrong lane? 2 mins at most? So from stop to getting that person on their way, maybe 5 mins. They can round up the nearest speeder if they need to make up some points or fines before the shift is out.

Forget the checkpoints on the roads... Have a Garda stroll through any supermarket car park* on a Saturday morning and you'll soon have most of the tax, insursnce and NCT offenders done.

*Question, are they allowed to do this? Private property and all that...

To your house to deal with the burglar in the back room that you reported perhaps? Or to Court to give evidence in the case of the burglar in your back room that they arrested last year?

But if you're happy to wait for them to stop the 4 out of 5 speeding drivers along the way, bully for you.

They weren't on blues. So it wasn't a critical incident. I doubt anyone is waiting up at 4am to have a chat with the Gardai. In fact, any time I've seen them attend they've usually called around the next morning.
Or to Court to give evidence in the case of the burglar in your back room that they arrested last year?

At 4am in the morning on the M50 between Dundrum and Firhouse? Strange way and time to be on the way to the courts.

I'd actually prefer to see some proactive policing by the Gardai to be honest. If they are on the way to court, or an RTA or an in progress robbery, absolutely no problem. But if they are plodding along at 4am in lane 2 of the M50 between 2 other cars doing 80km/h, they really should be saying something. Unless of course, like most 'professional' drivers in this country, they actually don't know what they are doing is wrong.

You seem to know an awful lot about how the Guards should be run. Keep an eye on public jobs.ie and submit your CV to become the next Garda Commissioner.

He doesn't need to be an expert to voice criticism.

I think they were only looking for the abuse to be hurled at them with this. I know in one of their tweets about this they said "Caption this and please be nice" :pac:

Years ago a loose potbelly pig had wandered into my yard and seeing as we didn't know who's it was (all cattle and slurry ambassadors locally), the next best call was to the local garda station...

A truly unforgettable phone call :D:D:D

They must like having the lights on, the 5 series passed on the n4 yesterday easily doing 140+ before Mullingar only to pull into the esso when it changes to a dual carriage

But assuming the offence took place near where the garda car parked up, that road is 120kph not 100kph like the tweet states. Still over though

No they won't it will be impound fee plus tax fine plus driving untested or unsafe motor vehicle.
    Points for the latter.

Imagine it did though. Say ,€333x 7 and €100 or so for cvrt test times 8.

Taxing it would be tricky though without changing ownership back and forth.
