Your Aunt dies leaving you 300K Euro in her Will.

The only stipulation is that you must use 90% minimum of the money to buy a property in Ireland or anywhere in the World but you can't sell the property in your lifetime.

You don't have to live in it if you don't want to.

Where would you buy the property? And Why?

I'd buy her old house and burn it.

Feck her and her stipulations, give me the money or don't.

A house in the Dam. Make it a hostel. Rent it out, and live in the attic.

But she gave you the money because you are her favourite nephew and you are homeless.

Syco, 300K wouldn't buy you even a one bed apartment in the Dam

A decent apartment, considerably bigger than a shoebox but not much, in a "good area" of London. Then collect them sweet sweet rents loike.

I see where you're going with this. Rent it out to young student ladies and drill holes in the ceiling to entertain yourself whilst hidden away in the attic?

I'd buy a holiday home in Croatia and another home in Germany. Nothing spectacular, bit of a garden and a terrace. I'd have that money spent before it hit my bank account.

Buy in a busy rental area, put money towards it if necessary/available to get a more prime location that you'd be happy to live/retire/die in. Live in it and rent out rooms if so desired for extra income and the craic, or not. Or rent the whole place/your room and use the money to pay rent/fund travelling abroad. Don't get greedy and end up making stupid decisions to get more money that will put it in jeopardy and just be content and appreciative that you got what most people struggle their whole lives for, for free.

coke 'n hoors ASAP. You could wake up dead a year later and not have enjoyed it!

Buy one in Orlando area so could rent it out the odd time or let kids who are ill come stay there while visiting the theme parks. Then I would spend some time there too. I know where I would buy it to. Somewhere over near Mama Ramona's Pizzeria on Landstar Boulevard, Meadow Woods, Orlando, then I could continue my flirtation with the gorgeous guy who works there and maybe someone will have magically handed in my allergy alert bracelet to the Publix next door.

Damn I miss my Florida sunshine and the gorgeous man in the pizzeria. (oh and their black bean and spinach lasagne was to die for.)

Capital gains/ inheritance tax would probably take a fair chunk so you couldn't afford anything decent

Buy anywhere and then sell it in a few years once she has fully decomposed, she won't turn in her grave then. Just claim you forgot if anyone pulls you up on it.

    Then, coke and hookers.

Interesting thread from thee nomis! I would of course buy a cottage as far from human habitation as I can get and spend my last years in splendid isolation. I have a few lined up in my dream box...Ah wonderful thought! Your aunt must have really cared about you...;) You could get something ready to live in for that..

But the cheapest property you can find. Something in the middle of nowhere in Africa or something, for a tenner. Then have 299,990.00 in my account.

Reminds me of the time I was in school and the teacher asked me if I had twenty pounds in one pocket and fourteen pounds in the other what would I have.

'Someone else's trousers on, Sir' I replied.

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/cat/thresholds.html

    €30,150 tax free
€269,850 would be taxable at 33%
    less €89,050.50 tax due

    leaving...
€210,949.50 don't forget you'll then be paying stamp duty at 1% and any legal/professional fees.

...and some parties want to increase this tax

Use it as a large deposit towards a property in London and get a mortgage on top of it to pay the rest. At the end of the day even if we moved away we'd still get a good rental income from it and it would be highly unlikely to end up in serious negative equity.

Exactly the amount you get will determine what you can buy. 210k won't get you much in a sought after area.........

175k will, however, buy a 2 bedroom apartment. Although it's about an hours walk away from the RDL, this does ensure there's less tourists about. and I've found many cafes away the RLD. Maybe a nice house in Prague district 4 for the same amount of money?

Plenty of apartments for well under 300k inside the Amsterdam ring.

Buy the house, insure it fully and the accidentally spring a gas leak and leave one curtain on fire while you go our for "shopping".
This part is very important OP, you need to go into the local supermarket and make sure you are caught on the CCTV cameras to prove your alibi.
Then call a friend and ask how are the sheep doing - sheep in this case is code word for "house burning".
If he say they are baaaa-ing then it means the house is on fire and it's safe to call the fire brigade.
Then act all panicky (this is for the CCTVs benefit) and rush off home to then find your inheritance up in smoke.
Try and cry for added affect.
Fill out the insurance forms and bobs your uncle you cheated the sneeky bitch.

In Ireland, someone close to Dublin but still not too close, somewhere close at the sea and no neighbours within 100 meters ;)

Why: I like ireland and for now I work in dublin

I'd either add about 30k to it and buy in North County Dublin or get a mortgage to double the €211k and look around the Raheny / Bayside area.

But you wouldn't get 300K, inheritance tax will cost you 90K or more if you previously got an inheritance from a relative other than a parent.
