Been toying with starting a log for a while, have 250 km to cycle over 2 days in May so best get into shape for it.

Today I went 32 km, around the North Circular to the Park, around the Park (Wellington Rd - Military Rd - North Rd), up and down Chesterfield Avenue, down the quays as far as Bridge Street, down Patrick Street as far as the canal and back home via the canal path. Slightly disappointing as I got caught in a hail storm and my lack of overshoes made me bail out and head for the hills early doe to wet and cold feet. Lesson learned is to invest in a set of overshoes.

    Distance 32 lm
    Time 1 hr 35 m
    Gain 145 m
    Av. Speed 20.2 km/h

Monthly total (inc spinning classes and commutes) 168 km
Weekly total (inc spinning classes and commutes) 32 km

Bit of advice, spend money on good overshoes & gloves. Cold hands & feet make cycling miserable. Worth stretching the budget in these areas

Overshoes and good gloves have been secured so no excuses for weather related whimp outs now I guess.

So today I took a test spin out to Sutton and back to see how cycling with overshoes on is like. Nice to have the tailwind on the way home for a change, 20 km give or take cycled in 54 minutes. I need to vary the route to avoid the awful surface between the wooden bridge and the causeway though.

    Distance 20 km
    Time 54 m
    Gain 43 m
    Av. Speed 23.1 km/h

Also took a spinning class that didn't kill me for once, for the purpose of this log I'm counting a 30 minute spinning class as 20 km.

Monthly total (inc spinning classes and commutes) 212 km
Weekly total (inc spinning classes and commutes) 76 km

25 km spin down to Dun Laoighre and back for today, planned on carrying out to Howth and back but bailed out when that hail storm hit. Had a weight session yesterday (feck I cannot lift to save my life) to build some upper body strength.

    Distance 25 km
    Time 1 h 10 m
    Gain 66 m
    Av. Speed 22.1 km/h

Monthly total (inc spinning classes and commutes) 242 km
Weekly total (inc spinning classes and commutes) 107 km
