Do Argos deliver to Parcel Motel?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38 nano267

Yes. I have ordered many items.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭soirish

With cheap oil, stronger euro and Revolut it might pay off to go shopping at the border. Yes I know 4K doesn't make much difference on 40" but it's still a good price for a smart TV.

Thanks for this. Going to order now. What Happens with bulky items such as this TV. Do ParcelMotel deliver to your home or the locker depots that they have? (Obviously those depots won't store a TV just want to know how it works)

    Thanks.

When it's checked in up the North it'll be oversized and you'll see an option on your account to have it sent to your local depot (if you have one) or have it delivered to your house.

There is of course an extra charge for oversized items.

That's perfect. There is a Night Line depot 10 minutes from my house. based on the TV dimensions I used the calculator and added on a few CMs for packaging etc. It comes up as €7 does that sounds about right to you?

Sorry for the all the questions just want to be sure before using it.

It'll be close, but at most I would say €14. If you enter the dimensions, add a little for packaging but then bump it up by 3-4 CMs more it goes to €14.

On the right hand side of the page there's a box to type in a postcode.

BT35 6AL for Newry and it says in stock.

50Hz motion rate, so expect plenty of blurring when viewing on this.

    Great, updated the OP.
We have been working with our manufacturing partner since the issue was raised and as a result we have implemented a software fix; users are required to connect to the internet and follow the on screen prompts to access the automatic software upgrade.

4x HDMI sockets (HDMI 2.0); 1x SCART socket, 1x AV socket; 1x PC input socket; Ethernet; WiFi not enough?

USB hub would set you back 5 quid.

I wouldn't be rushing out to buy this tbh, tread carefully.

    My reasons:
It's a Bush, you get what you pay for.

Do you need 4k? Don't buy into the hype. What 4k programming are you going to watch on it? If you feed it with HD picture or BluRay discs will provably be fined but most of your content is likely to be SD television from sky, Freesat or saorview. There's a good chance it'll look ni better than on your current telly. Plus there's a good chance it'll look worse.

I thought that when the 32 inch was on BA from Argos. I dithered for ages & finally decided to get it on the certain assumption that I would be taking it back.

It's fine & considering the price, a bargain.

Just to be clear 60Hz is mostly needed for XBox/PlayStation. On this TV the HDMI supports 4096x2160p at 60Hz and DVI supports 1600x900 at 60Hz.

I've linked the product manual in OP.

This TV has actually 3 USB ports (1 is usb3.0) and 4 hdmi ports. The remote is fairly user friendly. Its a decent buy for that price.

    I read a review recently advising 4K picture improvement only noticable on a 65" screen & +.

Its another gimic like Curved screens to 'entice' consumers to change their tv, 2b up to date ..... much like the 'sales pitch' for mobile ph technology.

    Google 4 article.

Not totally true, its more about the size of the tv versus the distance you sit from it. If you're sitting too far away for the size of the screen you won't notice any difference.

Its not quite a "gimic" either, curved tv's are essentially the exact same tv as flat and the effect is open to opinion and interpretation. 4K is actually a higher resolution, its physically a better spec.

I'd be more concerned for those watching SD channels on this TV.

HD upscaled to 4k might not look too bad, but SD upscaled to 4k has the potential to look very poor, depending the quality of the upscaling software on-board the TV, and I'm guessing the Bush wouldn't be as good as a Sony, Samsung or LG in doing the upscaling.

And remember that the majority of your channels into the TV are likely to be SD

I've seen this TV picture, HD and SD channels look faded, washed out. I was blaming the backlight settings a little and maybe angle of viewing, as in straight on is best. Bit disappointing but it was a cheap TV.

My point exactly. Spend a hundred more and get a decent branded one, will be money better spent.

As I said previously, i'm very impressed with the picture for the price. There is a lag on the TV with gaming, that's the biggest negative. Oh and the remote is useless..

is anyone else having issues accessing the side hdmi ports? none of my hdmi cables will fit in as the plastic/setting is too deep in the tv - it's almost as if i need to remove a side panel to use

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 407 ✭✭SeanyMc22

I see someone said there is lag when gaming. Thinking about getting this solely for Xbox One/PS4 gaming, to anyone that picked this TV up have you used it for gaming?

What's this TV like for older parents? They're not fussed with HD....they use an Openbox for sky and there's little or no HD on it. They want it primarily for saorview, Netflix. What's the software like for this, would it be easy for older folks to navigate. Is it saorview compatible. Is there any issues with it?

    Thanks.

It is not really as simple as that unfortunately. Philips for example are made by a Chinese company called TPV. What happens is that for some entry-level/low margin models these brand licencing companies outsource the work to Vestel. So most of the current high end Philips models are made directly by TPV (who make AOC monitors for example).

One definite mistake is Hisense. Hisense are a large chinese manufacturer, with big ambitions for western growth. They recently bought the Sanyo brand in the US for example and have a direct presence here in Europe (e.g. hisense.co.uk). There might be a couple of vestel models models lurking in their 1080P range but the key 4K models are coming from China.
