high altitude training..

    are there benefits from doing intermittent high altitude training or do you need to be living in these conditions 24/7 for a few weeks to see the benefit? I just seen there's a gym specialising in this and was curious..

    Where is this gym? and how long is the intermittent period.

    From what I've read, adaption time is longer at higher altitudes. At moderate heights, juvenile Red cells hit max after 10 days. Hemoglobin increases at about 1% per week. So 3 weeks will see an increase of about 2-4%, and it takes about 12 weeks reach the same levels are the residents (+12%).

    But by and large the there's a lot of misinformation about altitude training. Altitude training (and living) improves altitude performance. Hence the need to acclimatize before events. The idea that training at altitude boosts sea-level performance is still quite sketchy.
    I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the anecdotal evidence validating the use of altitude-type training, was a smokescreen for advanced EPO/Doping etc.

    The gym is in bluebell I believe, essentially I'm asking if doing maybe 2 sessions per week would actually benefit me more than training in a Normal gym..it seems quite unlikely?

    Do you have a link to the gym or something about how they are creating the effect of high altitude?

    I don't think two sessions a week, each probably around 60 minutes, would be enough exposure to really bring about a training effect that would affect your performance overall.

    This is why you replicate altitude while sleeping. Then train wherever.
