Hi I've been smoking since I was 12 and am now 36. Definitely need to give up the smokes. I had a read through this forum last night and ordered the istick with the aspire nautilus mini 20w from e-shop as recommended. I smoke Amber leaf so ordered x2 of the Virginia flavoured tobacco at 18mg strength. Hopefully receive before the weekend. How much juice will I need to start sorry if it's a stupid question but I'm such a newbie. Thanks

Edited to say I am so excited!!

Well done on taking the step to vaping and its a nice setup to get you going. The Nautilus mini holds 2ml juice and you'll probably be running your istick somewhere around 10 watts depending on the coil you have in it,how much you use will really depend on the way you vape it,I'm a chain vaper 90% of the time and can go through 25ml a day but then thats also attributed to the setup I use, more people will only go through 25ml a week so it's a try and see scenario when you start off.
18mg is quite high but normal for someone starting off, just be careful you don't overdose on nic,if you feel dizzy or nauseous take a break and drink plenty of water.
Take it easy to start with, experiment with your setup, ask loads of questions here and you'll be grand.

I was pretty much the same when I started vaping a few years ago. Same age, and smoking since I was 11 :/

You're lucky in that everything vape-wise has improved a lot since :) You won't have the pain of fiddling about with crap tanks and shoddy devices thank conked out if you looked at them sideways :D

When I started I too was on 18mg, sometimes even 24, and was all about tobacco juices. You may find you will chain vape a bit to begin, to curb the craving for cig's. I would buy a few bottles of juice to have on standby. Don't run out! 15ml should do you a few days though, using standard tanks. Make sure to get a few spare coils too and you'll be set for

The coils in your Nautilus vaporise the juice and are replaceable, you might need to change them every 3 weeks or so, depends a lot on the type of juice you use but once you loose flavour its time to chuck em.

The coils just screw into the base of the Nautilus and are available from most vendors.

Just to have in case, you could get a bad coil, or you could burn one out, always have a spare.

I'm coming from a 10-12g a day of Drum habit (pretty much a small pouch a day)
I started on 24mg, but still smoked a few a day - it blew my head off, but the nicoteine hit got my body wanting a vape more than a smoke, making it fairly easy to quickly cut down progressively - after about 10 days my tobacco use had fallen to a quarter of what it had been.

I'm fully off the smokes since the start of the week, and I find I'm now going through nearly a tank a day, which would be in or about 3-3.5ml a day.

Well done that's good to hear. From what I've read on here it's best to do both until the vaping takes over (fingers crossed)!

That's an impressive amount of juice dude. Even if I was chain vaping a subtank all day I couldn't get through that amount.

Just got the delivery this morning so far so good, I like the fact I'm getting a throat hit from it. I have it at 4.0v should I higher it a bit or is this the best to have it set to??

I have mine at 4.0 too. Try different levels and see what works best for you.

I would switch it to wattage mode, with volts you want to know what temp you want to vape at really, depending on the coils you're using. In wattage mode you set the watts, but let the device take care of the rest. Start at 10 watts, and adjust up or down according to your own preference.

To change to wattage mode, click the power button 3 times, you should see the V change to a w

I'm new at this myself, so I've only tried a few

Wicked - Carllos 24mg - was grand, but very strong.

    Wicked RY4 - didn't like

Bestcigliquid 20mg - Drummer - was supposed to taste like Drum, but doesn't really, and seems to wreak havoc with my coils for some reason. It is nice enough, but I seem to have problems with it.

Liqua - RY4 18mg - loved the taste, but a bit of research revealed it contains Diacetyl. I know many people are saying the whole Diacetyl issue is overblown, but I'm on a harm reduction agenda here, so I'm ruling out any liquids that contain it.

Liqua - Cuban Cigar 18mg - this is becoming my staple at this stage.

Liqua seems to be good quality, and generally gets good reviews. I will probably work my way through their flavours to see what my favourite is, and then experiment with other brands. At least then I have a baseline, because the array of flavours and brands is seriously confusing for the newbie.

I also have a bottle of Cola that I have yet to try....

Its a crazy amount of juice to be burning, but then I'm using builds of 0.2, 0.3 at 70/80 watts so that plays its part.

Been using the vape since this morning and haven't had a rollie yet which is great considering I'd have probably gotten through 7/8 by now.

Good stuff, stick with it. The first 2-3 days were hardest for me, I was sucking on the vape like a mad thing constantly to curb the urges for a smoke :D to think that I can't stomach the smell of cig's now! you'll get there

Try the French Pipe from Liqua, very good and worth a punt.

Best of luck, I am on the vapes a month now. The guy selling it to me said to combine both cigarettes and vaping for the start. I had about 4 cigarettes left when I bought it, I smoked them for the rest of the day and didn't really vape at all, just tried it out. Next day I just vaped and have only had 1 cigarette since, which was at 2 in the morning when I was drunk and my battery had run out because a friend of mine was also using my vape all night that night! I will get myself a spare one so it doesnt happen again, without it I could see myself buying cigarettes when out on the beer but with it there isn't a chance I would have a cigarette. I was smoking since my teens so over half my life and I have to say I don't miss them one bit now. I have bought a 12 ml bottle of juice for a fiver, a bigger 30 ml one for a tenner and the starter kit was 20 euro, so total spent in a month €35 and I still have half that juice left over. So I am vaping about 20ml a month. Both were tobacco flavoured (although it doesnt taste or smell bad) and I might try a few more types of the €5 bottle, there is actually a deal on 3 bottles of 12ml for €13 so i might try a menthol or a fruity one or something.

Here are some juices that I have been vaping for the past 6 months, only a Pound a bottle...http://www.onepoundeliquid.com/all-e-liquid.html

I recommend Blueberry,Very Berry,Pineapple,Aniseed,Mint Blast,Banana & Vanilla Custard at 24mg for tanks like the Nautilus & 6mg for all my Sub Ohm tanks. There ratio for PG/VG,the lower the mg the higher the VG.
The worst taste for me was Rhubarb & Custard.
They also do 100% VG Liquids.
Shipping only takes 3 or 4 days.
Well worth it if you are sub ohming.

I am new to this but its been great so far, I just bought a starter kit and dont really know the names of everything

Edit: Thanks for the link by the way thats an awesome price for liquid I reckon my liquid costs just went down to about €5 a month

PG & VG are a base liquid, you mix nicotine & a flavour to make eliquid.
PG is a thin liquid that gives you the taste from a flavour.
VG is a thick liquid that doesn't give you much taste with a flavour but it gives you loads of vapor(clouds).
When PG & VG are mixed together, lets say 50/50,you will get very good taste & clouds, most of us like PG 20% & VG 80%,at this ratio you will get plenty of taste & massive clouds when using a low resistance coil & high wattage.
A Nautilus has a mediokey size coil 1.6 or 1.8ohm resistance & normally vaped around 10watts.
Sub ohming is a resistance under 1.0ohm,the lowest I have ever built is a 0.05ohm & vaping at over 100w.
There are different wires used to make a coil, like Nickle(very low resistance wire) & Titanium (a low resistance wire) & Stainless Steel (medium resistance wire) & Kanthal which is in your Nautilus(a highish resistance wire).
When using Kanthal, you set the watts not too high, from approx 10w to 35w.
Using the other wires which have a low resistance, you go higher in the watts, approx 35w to 200w.(you use the juice much quicker this way but it has fantastic flavour & clouds & your Nicotine strengths will be lower, about 3mg or 6mg,in my Nautilus,I need 24mg & sub ohming I need 6mg.
All this will probably be overwhelming for you,it was for me at the start.
Maybe somebody else on here can explain it alot better than me.
I learned everything about vaping on YouTube & still learning.
Vaping got me off the cigs very easy & it is now a hobby.
In a couple of months you will building your own coils & mixing your own eliquid:D:D
Just keep asking questions here,if we know the answer so will you, eventually your advice on vaping will help newbies in the future...

So, youdipstick, I could achieve a satisfying vape from a sub ohm with not too much nicotine?

If I have a nautilus as you think I do, I need 24mg to have a satisfying vape. The 12mg juice I have is a bit like air.
This is just what I was thinking today, I would like a strong vape experience (throat hit I suppose its called) without the need for a strong nicotine juice.

I dont think it was ever the nicotine I was addicted to but the action of smoking so this sounds good to me

    Thanks, I will research further

Everything the Big Dipper said is true and here's another option for you.
Personally, I'd be more inclined to stay with your current set up and increase your nicotine levels initially if it's throat hit you're after.
I'd also stick to juices with higher pg content for the same reason. Some of the standard Liqua range or similar would probably be ideal.
It was all about throat hit for me as well when I started vaping so I think I know how you feel.
For me, sub-ohm vaping is much smoother and the liquids we use tend to be much lower in nicotine and much higher in vg.
If you know anyone else who vapes and uses a sub-ohm kit, see if you can try it, as even the way you inhale can be different and you might not get the throat hit you're looking for at the moment.
That's the great thing about vaping as a hobby - there are soooo many options available

As Shin says,it was the throat hit for me as well & also using my hand actions to vape,I rolled cigs for 50 years & spinning my Zippo, vaping has replaced this by building my own coils, wicking, diy juice & a lovely throat hit without coughing my lungs up & spitting all over the place.
I started vaping nearly 7 years ago & the vaping gear compared to now was really sh1t,the wicking was terrible then, dry hits & burnt taste, liquid was like water, taste was muted but the nicotine hit was great at 36mg,then I went down to 24mg & still on it with coils higher than 1.2ohms.
If you want to drop your Nic level down to 3 or 6mg,you will need to go sub ohming,a 0.5ohm coil & lower resistance.
I find that different juices affects the throat hit even when using the same ohm coil. For instance,I have 2 setups with a 0.5ohm coil in each of them with different flavoured juices,ex.Fruit vs Bakery & both are 6mg.I find the fruit flavour for me is a stronger throat hit than the bakery flavour, although the fruit is covering my cravings for nic,the bakery one is a gorgeous taste but less of a throat hit,so one is equal to the other in that respect,my answer to this is,get yourself 2 setups with different juices in & different coil ohms, vaping one flavour all the time will give you vapors tongue & it's becomes boring,I run over 50 setups now with about 40 different flavours,so I am enjoying my type of vaping,I love mouth to lung vaping & also love doing lung hits.
Everyone has their own type of vaping, but I do recommend vaping 2 different setups/flavours to start off with, like the Nautilus & a Subtank Mini for lung & mouth to lung hits, this kit will also come with an RBA deck where you can build your own coils, this kit comes with a 1.2 coil for MTL or Lung hits & also comes with a 0.5 coil, using this coil, you will need to invest in another mod that can handle sub ohming.
Hope this helps you a bit...

Day 3 using the vape and apart from an inflamed eyelid I'm doing great. I've not smoked a rollie since Thursday morning and I don't want one nor am I craving one. I much prefer vaping. Going to pick up some sweet juices today as I've a sweet tooth!
