iphone playing wrong song and stops after one song

Hi all,
im running os 8.1 as my iphone 5 hasnt enough memory to update (its only a 5g). Im after creating a new playlist in itunes and I have synced it across to my phone. However, when I try and play the playlist (or any playlists as i have tried a few different ones at this stage) it plays a different song to the one named and then stops when the song finishes, I have to manually press play for the next song, again not the one named, to play it. Any ideas as this is a nightmare.
I have re-synced, manually synced, tried everything but it just keeps happening again and again.
Any help would be appreciated, even just to get the playlist to continuously play instead of manually having to play would be a start.

It sounds like shuffle might be on.

shuffle is not the issue. Its happening with any playlist that I sync across to my phone...
im at a loss as theres nothing being mentioned online as far as I can see.
Any help would be great

Have you tried:
- restarting the phone?
- signing out and in of iTunes/Music?
-signing out and in of the App Store?

How much room have you actually left on your phone?
