Do you get the Sunday Blues?

So, it's Sunday evening and the weekend is drawing to a close. Tomorrow morning is Monday and back to work. Does anyone here get a case of the Sunday Blues? Where you're still enjoying the weekend time off but in the back of your mind is the realisation that its up early tomorrow for work.

If you think about work in that way then it is time to change jobs

I used to get them on Saturday at about 1pm.

Since they cancelled Glenroe I haven't had the Sunday blues.

I thought it was the dread of going back to school, and then later to work, but actually I just hated that theme tune!

My job enables me to live a very good life and see a lot of the world. Some of us don't like to live in fear of getting up in a Monday morning. Sorry that your job must suck.

On the serious side, if you are not happy do something to change. There are a lot of Monday mornings before you get to retire.

Not that easy to have a job you love.

If everyone had a job they liked society wouldn't function.

From - 'Life the Universe and Everything' by the late Douglas Adams. I think he captured the feeling.

In the end, it was the Sunday afternoons he couldn't cope with,
and that terrible listlessness which starts to set in at about
2.55, when you know that you've had all the baths you can
usefully have that day, that however hard you stare at any given
paragraph in the papers you will never actually read it, or use
the revolutionary new pruning technique it describes, and that as
you stare at the clock the hands will move relentlessly on to
four o'clock, and you will enter the long dark teatime of the
    soul.

Since I finished school and enjoy what I chose to do for a living, I'm glad to say I no longer experience the Sunday evening blues. I don't dread the alarm going off in the morning.

I used to hate Sunday nights, because I often had trouble sleeping thinking of things for the week ahead.

But I took a very early retirement, so every night is Friday night now!

    So sorry. My very bad.

    LOL.

I think the double posts are a Boards issue due to the DDOS attack!

    But I know...

Still if you all work hard and save hard, and don't be taken in by the banks and such, you will be grand. Live simply but enjoy.

Never were any pockets in a shroud.

I remember the Sunday blues feeling all too well. A restless night because of the anxiety about what I might be facing in to the next morning. Sitting in my car if I was early waiting until the exact time for me to go in. Taking respite in the toilet or doing anything that would take me away from the place for an hour or two.
Crying all the time and being constantly tired.
    It was hell.

It was a hell that came with plenty of money but what good was it when I felt the way I did. No credit card now. No fancy house. No heading off on a plane whenever I feel like it. But I have peace of mind and contentment :)

There is no price on that freedom. Glad you are in a good place now.

But many still have to do the grind to pay for their outgoings. We cannot judge.

I am but it can be tough financially. At the end of the day I made a choice. I knew that choice would mean huge changes in my lifestyle but it was the right one.

You are right. I have people close to me who have mortgages and young children. They do their best and it's not always easy.

I think Sundays are kind of a sacred time to me. It's the one day no one is doing anything really and the day is spent relaxing or doing whatever I like. So usually I'm not too bothered by Monday as I'm doing something I like. Infact I would say that the fact that I know Monday is coming enriches what I do on Sunday as I can appreciate relaxing more knowing it won't last for much longer.

Yes, the choices we make can mean financial problems sometimes. But to me, that price is one well worth paying for.

I wish you well. You will be fine, you are happy with your choice in life.

    Not many achieve that.

I don't mind Sundays, I catch myself up a bit and take it easy and get organised for the week ahead, nothing strenuous. I don't dread Mondays because I like my job, so that's a plus.

When I was a kid I hated Sunday evenings, really had that sinking feeling. My favourite time of the week was late Friday afternoon, all the week behind you, all the weekend ahead.

Not since 2008 when I left a job that almost destroyed me. I remember getting up every morning with a sick feeling in my stomach, never again.

    Ah thanks.

I had to work very hard to do it, and pay down debt, and do nada for a while.

But my friends are still my friends, my family still love me (I think!) and it was worth the pain for the gain.

Freedom from debt and financial worry is amazing.

But it's not on everyone's horizon either, so each to their own.

Ahhh Sundays. Extra time spent making the best breakfasts and lovely roast dinners. Extra time with the children. Extra time for sex. No time for blues to set in.

Dunno why - but Thursdays are the one that get me. I always seem to have to drag my way through Thursdays. Motivation and Energy at the lowest point every week.

Yup. Used to get it to the point where I couldnt sleep on a sunday night. So, I quit. Simple really.

don't dread it now i don't have to face the m50 on a wet monday like today... i work from home on mondays so can get up a little later and walk 5 yards to work!

Hah for someone who appears to be able to exercise discipline strongly in every area of my life - working from home is something I truely suck at. I lack all discipline to do it. Mind wanders - I find other things to do - and worse. Which is slightly annoying given I have a job that lends itself to working from home quite well. I just can not seem to do it.

Perhaps I can build an office/shed thing somewhere that I can lock myself into when working from home and that would help - but it seems like a lot of work for something that might not help in the end :)

Yep, I used to get them a few years back, that horrible feeling would take hold of me around 6pm every Sunday.

Working in a job now that I like, so going in on Monday mornings now is grand :)

    Sunday Night Syndrome!

I generally don't get the Sunday blues any more.

In my last job I could at times be physically sick at the thoughts of going to work. It's not a good place to be. Now I absolutely love my job, there's nothing to dread, no one that I hate to face. Just a really good working environment. Funny, that I'm still in the same building as the one that made me so sick.

Now last night was a different story because I was hungover (honestly, I'm returning to my no binge drinking promise now) and the thoughts of getting up to go collect my car and to be in work around 7 was killing me but I was surprisingly well when I woke at 5:30!

Honestly, I know well how hard it is to walk away from a job that's causing you so much stress, but it's worth at least trying to find something else. You spend too much of your life there for you to hate it so much so it shouldn't make you sick :(
