Grange's summary for February 2016

Unremarkably wet, mild and sunny.

Rainfall: Wetter than normal but not exceptionally so
February recorded a rainfall total of 61.2mm (143% of the LTA) at Grange and though it was its wettest February since 2014, it wasn't exceptionally wet overall. I didn't record any very wet days (days with 10mm) during February which was of shock contrast to this total and what the rest of the Winter brought. My highest daily fall was 8.3mm on the 16th which was my lowest maximum daily rainfall for February since 2008. February did not break any rainfall records despite being wetter than normal and it was the most benign February since 2013. I recorded 19 wet days, my highest for February also since 2014. I had my longest dry spell from the 22nd - 28th (7 days) - my longest throughout the Winter of 2015 / 16.

Temperature: Relatively mild but not exceptionally so
February recorded a mean temperature of 4.2c (+0.2c above the LTA) at Grange and though it was still the mildest February since 1998, it wasn't exceptionally mild. I recorded my maximum temperature of 12.4c on the 4th which was +0.3c higher than 2015's maximum and was my highest for February since 2012. I recorded my minimum temperature of -6.3c on the morning of the 15th which was my lowest also for Winter 2015 / 16 and my lowest for February since 2015. I recorded 15 frosts (counting ground frosts) throughout February, my highest since 2010. Overall, February did not break any temperature records.

Sunshine: Relatively sunny but not exceptionally so
February was sunnier than normal overall with a total of 86 hours of sunshine (123% of the LTA). It was my sunniest February since 2004 but not exceptionally so. My sunniest day was recorded on the 22nd with 9.1 hours, my highest also since 2004. I recorded 4 completely dull days which is slightly below average. And like the other Winter months (all sunnier than normal also), February was nothing remarkable sunshine wise as a whole and did not break any sunshine records.

February will not be memorable because as a whole, it was a very benign month with no records broken.
