    Hi ladies,

Looking for a bit of advice here. I'm finally going to bite the bullet and go for my first smear test.

Problem is I don't currently have a GP in Ireland. Havemail been abroad a lot in the last 5 years or so and just haven't needed to go to a doctor here.

Is this really unusual? I'm wondering if I want to get tested at a Well woman clinic or somewhere like that will I need to tell them my GP or if this will be a problem cos if so I don't have one!

    Thanks

You can go to a Well woman clinic or a GP - as long as you have a PPS number, you are able to get a free smear. Just check you're registered on the cervicalcheck.ie website.
The results will come back to you and to whoever did your smear, so you don't have to give the details of a GP.
Well done on doing it - too many people put it off!

    You will be fine...

You just don't have one, id be in the same boat.. I don't have a GP for the last 3-4 years now and smear test time has come along and im like mmm where to go, it is fine just explain as you say that you were away so do not have a regular GP or as such you don't have to explain anything.. I don't have one as I don't go to the GP unless I really need to.. As Valerie said just your PPS number and see if you qualify for the free smear. They are great as they send you the reminder whenever your next smear test is free. They don't let up either, I lost my first letter and got another one reminding me I still had not gone to it...

Just make sure and get someone nice.. Best of luck with it, never nice to get them done but well worth it just for peace of mind

Good luck! And honestly, its fine and you'll feel better once you've done it and it won't be hanging over you anymore.
