Jacobs Jaffa cakes state that each cake contains 8% (7.4g) of a typical adults RDA.
I was under the impression that you should have no more than 24-30g per day?

It looks to me that they are basing their 8% on the 90g limit I have seen mentioned.
I think the recommended limit of 24g per day by the WHO refers to "Free Sugars".
Unfortunately, manufactures don't have to distinguish between free sugars and naturally occuring sugars in their products.

I found this BBC page very useful.

I think I'll stick to a few rich tea with tea!

You say that as if they're some super healthy alternative!

    Per Rich Tea:
    Calories: 38
    Carbohydrates: 5.9g
    Sugars: 1.7g

    Per Jaffa Cake:
    Calories: 46
    Carbohydrates: 8.6g
    Sugar: 6.4g

So unless you have a specific condition where you're avoiding sugar, Rich Tea are hardly better than Jaffa Cakes if you're going to be eating a few of them they'll have the same effect on your waistline. Jaffa Cakes also have less salt per biscuit. Yes Rich Tea have half the sugar per 100g, but that doesn't mean you should go eating twice as many :P

    Sugars: 1.7g
    Sugar: 6.4g

That's 26% of the sugar of rich tea compared to a jaffa cake. That's a massive difference. 1.7g per 100g is barely anything.

I'd have about 4 jaffa cakes with a cup of tea most days.
That's 25.2g of sugar. Basically the daily limit of free sugars!
4 Rich Tea is 6.8g. A massive difference.

I'm fairly active and not overweight but would like to try sticking close to the recommended limit.

What about Fig rolls? I love a few fig rolls with a cup of tea.

I found two links, both say 65cals per Jacobs Fig Roll, but for sugars one says 5.9g and one says 6.3g. You can also just look on the packet yourself :D
