Seriously .. great as it is celebrating the rising. The f**king thing cost enough to put on O'Connell Street. They are going to waste another €500000 to move it for 2 weeks. Spend it on something more worthwhile.. give it to the homeless or needy!

You would have though the builders would have thought about this being an issue with large events.... At least it faired better than the clock.

Unless something more recent has occurred, this was announced previously.....

    ...on April 1 2015.......

    yes...that's April 1...................

It would be brilliant if they blew the arse out of it, save us a few bob every year too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,080 ✭✭✭✭Maximus Alexander

Maybe we could just have an actual rising in response to the frivolous wasting of our tax Euros, really get in the 1916 mood.

It's rare you see someone falling for an April fools in January.

The landmark, which cost €4m to erect, will be removed in sections, with organisers hopeful the sections can be stored in a hangar at Dublin Airport for the duration of the commemorations.
We should leave the spire as it is and store the organisers in a hangar.

Have they not heard of photoshop?

This is daft. It's nonsense like this that makes me want to tell the taxman to feck off, I'm more than capable of wasting money on stupid crap all on my own.

Lol, is nobody looking at the date of the article, or even reading subsequent posts stating the obvious?

I agree. I've had so little to be outraged over today that I had to spend a while arguing with bus drivers over LUAS strikes. I thought this was my golden ticket.

The only time I've taken any damn notice of the thing since it was first stuck there was recently when it was lit it up for the Star Wars premier before Christmas. It was quite eye catching at night, to a point (no pun intended) where otherwise its just something that people tend to walk past every time without even looking at it.

It's a pity they couldn't have built something that people could go up and have some interaction with.. say a rebuilt Nelson's pillar with someone else on the top. An Irishman this time who did something for the country... maybe Jack Charlton... Jack's pillar. yeah.

The spire is a bit meh in any case...

Blow it up and replace it with Nelson's second column

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,188 ✭✭✭LDN_Irish

I'm just after reading on some local Waterford news site that they're gonna have the organisers shot afterwards to make it more realistic. This country is a ****ing joke. There's people on the streets and they're wasting money on firing squads and ammunition.

Might be an april fools joke, but scarily ...its very believable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,455 ✭✭✭maudgonner

There was this guy down the pub, right, who said that it's going to be stored in the same warehouse as the e-voting machines! And the taxpayer is already shelling out half a bazillion euros a year for that, so it will be a full bazillion next year.

And do you know who owns the warehouse?

    Michael Noonan's mother's next door neighbour's nephew.

    FACT!
