I'm sorry if this is the wrong place, I thought it might be see by the most women........due to my family history I was advised to have a genetic test today for breast/overian cancer. I've an appointment for a couple of weeks time and I'm just wondering if anyone knows how much it costs? Do health insurers here cover it (aviva in particular)?

I know nothing about it except that what is covered by insurers varies drastically. You have to call your insurers with your insurance number and they will tell you what is covered by your plan. The hospital/clinic should be able to tell you the cost of testing.

I had it done but due to being diagnosed with cancer. It was a simple blood test but the waiting seemed like it took forever. Because of my history I didn't have to pay for it

Doing good now, thankfully. The Genetic team are great. I found them so helpful and full of information. They were keen to meet me first to discuss why I was having the test and how the results would impact my life. I felt I was understood and listened to through out the process.
The very best of luck on your own journey

I had it done a couple of years ago and it didn't cost me anything. I was referred by my gp to the mater breast clinic based on family history and suspicious lumps. I don't have any health insurance either and I only paid €60 for the initial doctors appointment.
