Crude price today down close to $30 barrel.

Noticed on pumps.ie that diesel is for sale as low as 99.9 Cent in Ballina.

I never thought we would see sub €1 per litre again.

Still garages in Dundalk selling petrol at €1.29, a joke.

106.8 in west Limerick yesterday was as low as I've seen it in legit sites (Maxol/TOP anywhere from Adare to Newcastlewest for anyone interested)

Petrol is way more expensive at the pump than diesel at the minute

diesel might come under €1 per liter in some places eventually , but can never see petrol going below €1.05 or even €1.10 for along long time

    I think it's coming to $20 a barrel.
It can take around 3 weeks for the pumps to see a difference.

Might be a good time to sell my Xtrail so :)

I cannot understand the pricing. I know there is currency factors involved also.

But, can you remember the clown that pushed the stock market price per barrel over $100. I know it was not just one guy but he laid claim to be first.

When that happened we got an extra digit on the fuel price signs and very soon after it was over a €1 per litre. Now we are 1/3 of the price of crude but still the price of the pump is over €1.20 for petrol.

Inflation, currency and taxes among others are factors but surely not the rate we see here in ireland.

It does amaze me that as soon as there is a hint of crude prices going up the prices at the pump jump. But when it goes down we get the "o but we have overheads, and it takes a while for the price change to filter through etc." If the price of your raw materials drops by 10 % you can drop the sale price. Shower of thieves.

3 months would be more like it, when the price of oil goes up prices at the pumps go up that night. Maybe I'm too cynical:rolleyes:

Remember that when the greens come around looking for votes. Petrol is charged an extra 10c per litre for producing less poisonous nox and particulates.

Admittedly it does usually produce more gaseous plant nourishment than diesel for the same amount of work.

Does anyone use the pumps.ie android app?

I'm unable to log in on it. Anyone else having that problem?

Whoever owns it (maybe ed.android here) doesn't answer queries or emails.

    But does it?

I think people think of budget tax increases, which do take effect at midnight, and assume that the same happens when the price of crude oil goes up, when in fact I've never noticed it happening that quick, nor have I seen anyone show any evidence of it.

    It's an ease whinge.

    No.......It actually does

It mightn't go up at the stroke of midnight but definitely within a day or two. When oil goes down you say it has to take weeks. Why the discrepancy?

Where did I say it had to take weeks when the price of oil goes down?

And where is your evidence that it goes up within "a day or two"?

All I'm saying is that people only notice the increases, and assume they happen immediately with some conspiracy theory that someone is making a killing, where there is no evidence of this happening. (At least none that I have seen)

Sorry it was Pete K who said it can take 3 weeks for the prices to go down.

If you don't see prices jumping almost immediately when there's a price rise in crude then I can't help you Valetta. I've seen it happen umpteen times. Next time oil goes up I'll let you know & you'll see the price rise right away. I promise you.

Dont forget the Euro is weak relative to the Dollar. It is down about 11% from last year. That has to be factored in. Excise duties and carbon tax is about 58 cent on a liter of diesel. We pay a 2 cent levy to NORA. Then you add VAT of 23% on all of those(the VAT is really on the final price). Then you also have the crude price of oil, transport, the refinery fee, the wholesale margin and then the retailer's margin.

When you look at all the taxes and margins. There isnt much room for prices at the pumps to go down significantly more, when you consider the tax on diesel is a minimum of 74 cent per litre not taking into account price of oil and profits

In the U.S. at the moment it's working out about 52 cents a litre.

The biggest thing to remember is the number of fuel taxes added in the last 5-7 years plus the €/$ exchange rate is at its lowest level in a very long time. Fuel at sub €1 a litre is not going to happen.

Diesel would have to hit 88,89cent to bring the price of petrol + "Gormley levy" below the euro.

Incorrect - if you looks at pumps.ie and the chart of increases and decreases and take into account currency changes, you will find forecourt price increase and decrease about the same time after oil price changes. A study was done about 2 years ago and it correlated almost exactly both ways. However your eyes will tend to see a negative affect more than a positive affect, so you will notice an increase more than you will notice a decrease.

The raw oil price is just one component of the forecourt price.

If oil was $1, then petrol would be about €1.05 and diesel about 90c on average.

at $31, raw oil costs 18.5c a litre + vat
refining costs 7c - 12c +vat depending on tons of factors including grade of oil, time of year and demand. Only a certain percentage of oil can be refined into various fuels "easily" once demand is higher, then parts of the oil that is not easy to refine to the required fuel has to be "manufactured" to become that fuel (one of the reasons petrol is more costly than diesel - different duty also applies)

    transport & logistics = about 2c + vat

    fuel distributors = about 6c + vat

    fuel retailers = about 5c + vat

    then duty (+vat)
    &carbon tax (+vat)

There are four petrol stations in Boyle. Yesterday morning two of them were 99.9 for diesel. One of the others was 103.9. By the evening three were 99.9 and the fourth was 99.5. Great for my pocket. Filled a tank for less than €50 for the first time in a long long time.

+ barrels of oil is priced in dollars, the fx rate at the moment is horrendous.

We're a long way from those prices here in Wexford. Some garages are at 113.9 for diesel.

Paid 107.9 in drogheda 20 mins ago. Filled the tank (to the tune of €70ish).

Was in Ratoath 2 days ago and it was 99.8 for diesel. Kinda wish that price was in Drogheda, too!

But at the same time, does anyone really care that much? Even at 8c in the difference, my car has about a 60ltr tank (guessing), so if i fill a completely empty tank, the difference is less than a fiver. Admittedly, I'm currently using half a tank of diesel a day, but when when i go back to 'normal' driving, a full tank would last about a fortnight.

A fiver in the difference doesn't really seem that much to be worried about in the grand scheme of things? (obviously i want it to be as cheap as possible, but I wouldn't be taking a lengthy trip to a station that had it at 99.9 if it was 107.9 only around the corner).

Most Sligo town stations seem to be at the 99c mark. 103.9 north of that to Donegal town. Think petrol was 119 or 120
