Another TK Maxx thread

I was at the club last Saturday, hitting on all sorts of chicks.

But I seen this guy, about the same as myself, looks wise, and we were both hitting on the same chick.

She turns around, has a good butchers at me, then a good butchers at him.
    She went for him.

The only reason I can think of, is that he had on this pretty sweet looking sweater/vest, white, skin tight.
The guy obviously worked out, and it showed off his upper body pretty well (no homo).

So I'm in town yesterday and I say, "I'm gonna pick me up one of them".

I figured, seems as it's somewhat of a "specialist" item, I'd check the supposedly more upper market clothes stores.

River Island - tried a few of their things, after spending about a half an hour going from rail to rail, cause everything is divided by item, with a bunch of different sizes of the same item on a rail.
Tried them on - no good.

Fock it - I go to TK Maxx.

All I have to do, is check out one rail, cause all the sizes are gathered together.
    Flicking through.
Happydays, they have what I'm looking for.
    Try it on.
Perfect fit, exactly what I was after.

Some people aren't fans but, to me, this is best clothes store around.

A friend said his favorite place to shop is "Zara", which I haven't been to yet.
Next time I'm in Dublin, I'll check it out.

I have also liked Debinems and H & M, but, small town in the west - this is definitely the best this place has to offer at the moment.

I've now read that twice and haven't the foggiest idea what you posted it for.

Pure nonsense. Neither substance nor logic to it.

Call back soon and enlighten please.

The thing with clothes is that they will always look better on someone that has a good frame, not necessary built, but not skinny or carrying too much weight.

I know this isn't a revelation, but it was light bulb moment for ME once upon a time. :o

The only thing that throws me slightly, is the slave-labor accusations.

But, from what I understand, "upper market" clothes stores aren't innocent of that either.

River island/Zara are about as upmarket as I am. And yep sweatshop labour ahoy. That's how clothes are so cheap/profits are maximised. If they're not produced in Europe or America, the "west" basically, it's nearly always two bowls of rice a day for wages.

    I'm either medium or large.

XL is just too big for me.

It depends on the day you go there cause, their stock varies so regularly, depending on what they get in.

How do you know if they're produced in the west or not?

I heard, even American brands, or supposedly American brands, just label the clothes in the US, but the material itself is actually mass manufactured in, I dunno, focking Bangladesh or something.

It amuses me no end when one of the young ladies in my circle arrives back with some artifact or other from one of these trendy boutiques, something resembling a hand-towel that the mice have been at, that cost the best part of €200 and comes with a half-hour lecture at the shop explaining that under no circumstances should you wash it, iron it, fold it, or expose it to atmospheric oxygen. Name a' cheeses, like! :pac:

Read the labels, do research. Generally speaking if you're paying feck all for a shirt or whatever, chances are it's made outside western manufacturing. The markup on clothing is huge, 100% plus and snouts are in the trough from the factory onward, so… That's how TK Maxx can afford to fire out remaindered stock at big discounts and still make good profits.

Also, if the garment in question is outrageously, lip-wobblingly expensive, the chances are it's made in a galvanised shed in Burma and the profits are going to some Ermintrude in Kensington. :D

I remember the conversation with Mrs. Goose a couple of years ago when TK Maxx opened in Cork:

Mrs. G: Good news! TK Maxx are finally in Cork!

JG: Superb. What is a "TK Maxx"?

MG: It's, um, this really great clothes shop with discounted branded stuff for half-nothing.

JG: I see. Sort of like Penneys for pikeys who don't realise they're pikeys.

    MG: ...

JG: What hallucenogens were you on when you concluded that this would be my idea of a good time? I'm going out to the Co-op to get some chlorus. Later!

    :D

I remember years ago me and my friends were queuing up for a club behind a group of these fashionable, hip and happening-looking fellas.

One of them turned around, very blatantly looked my mate up and down and said to his friend beside him in the most hilariously loud and pompous tone: "Ger, yer man looks totes loike he shawped in TK Maxx!"

I thought it was pretty funny because my mate didn't know how to react to that. :pac:

    Little known fact:

TK Maxx in the States is called TJ Maxx.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 621 ✭✭✭Under_Graduate

One thing I don't buy there though, is my shoes.

Asics and Converse, they don't seem to stock.
Even suede work shoes, I'd go to a shoe specialist store.

Jackets, tops, jeans, shirts, t-shirts - they're all aces though.

This is just effectively a continuation of it.

TK Max is just like a giant, overpriced charity shop (with no proceeds going to charity). IF they have something you like, they'll only have one of them and it won't be in your size.

That said, they do decent brands of kitchenware for half what you'd spend anywhere else.
