His offical Twitter page is after posting the following message.

"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief."

New album he just put out was a belter as well :(

So it could be a hoax yet still start a thread on it?

Key word, hoping. Seeing as it came from his official sites it was pretty certain, but was hoping I'd be proved wrong!

Make his last video even more impactful now

I normally don't take much notice of the celebrity RIP's but did a double take when I saw that and am sorry to see it's true. Great artist and performer and one of the first artists I was 'into' thanks to my older brother. RIP.

This trend of releasing albums around the death of singers is a bit immoral by the music labels. Surely they knew on Friday that he was deteriorating.

    RIP

Grew up listening to Bowie in the 70s and 80s thanks to albums my older siblings bought. I didn't know he was sick either. Very sad news and another icon gone. He was the soundtrack to a lot of peoples lives. Thanks Ziggy.

I'm sure he knew it himself though and it's possible the drive to release the album for his 69th had kept him going this last year.

Was Bowie's own label that put it out, and was released on his birthday so I'd say he had all the say in it. Listening to it again now and it hits so much harder with this news :(

Bowie was a true legend in my book. He made great music in each of the last four decades.
'Where are we now' been his last great song.

I rally am shocked as had never even thought of him dying. He always seemed so healthy.
    Fckin cancer.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,846 ✭✭✭✭Liam McPoyle

As influential as any artist that's ever performed, another icon gone.

In a more than 40 year career he had done it all and his music will always be remembered.

How many artists that are plying their trade today will be remembered in 40 years?

    Sad day indeed.

    That was weird watching that.

The end where he goes into the wardrobe is like he knew, as in it was his last video, etc..

Like watching a coffin close. Tough to watch actually.

    Really awful news. Absolute legend.
Too many great songs to list.
Listened to his best of while studying at the start of the year quite a bit.

    RIP

I am really sad to hear this news but at the same time very grateful i had the chance to see this giant perform live 20+ times.

I really, really hope that this isnt a reason for today's "stars" to bring out covers of his music.

    Such sad news :(

Made worse by the fact that the immediate reaction from my colleagues here in the office was not 'such a legendary, influential artist', but 'his ex-wife is in Celebrity Big Brother right now, ooooh how will she take it?'

    RIP David Bowie :(

Very sad, always hoped i'd get to see him play live but never did. Nearly did when he was meant to play Oxegen but had to cancel. Legend gone
