Time to start one for the new year!

Adam McMullen jumped 7.70m in Jordanstown today! Barry Pender jumped 2.26m in Cardiff (previous best: 2.20m).

    Great start for those two.

Elizabeth Morland scored 4043 pts in the Junior women's section of the National Combined events championships, which, by my reckoning, is a national senior and junior record. She's still only 17.

Would that count as a senior record? Are the hurdle heights not different?

Open to correction, but I think the senior and junior women's hurdle heights are the same.

Great result anyway. This country is in dire need of some multi-eventers. Nice to have a talent like this.

Just had a look at the early season lists on the European Athletics website and Morland is ranked 1st junior and 3rd senior in the pentathlon. And 4th junior and 19th junior in the Hurdles and HJ respectively! Her hurdles also ranks 7th on the Irish senior all-time indoor hurdles list!

    Kudos.

Those European lists not hat accurate Sommer Lecky FV 15 jumped 1.80m in Jordanstown not on that list

John Travers ran 8:04.25 for 3000m indoor in Boston last weekend. Aaron Hanlon ran 8:25.17 at the same meet in a different heat.

Sara Treacy and John Coghlan are running the 3000m at the Armory Track Invitational this weekend, with Declan Murray in the 800m. John Travers will be running the mile, where he'll be up against US high school phenomenon Drew Hunter, who ran 7:59.33 for 3000m indoor last weekend, becoming the first high schooler to run under 8 minutes indoor. Might see if I can watch it online and what the schedule is.

Kevin Batt ran 7:53 for 3k outdoors, down Under. Augurs well for his 5k.

Mark English opened with 1:47.28 in the B race in Dusseldorf. Decent enough indoors.

    Armory Invitational indoors

    Sara Treacy, 9:28 for 3000m.

John Travers ran 4:02 in the mile, good bit off the pace of Chris O Hare but he was involved in a bit of history pretty much pacing Drew Hunter until the last lap to An American HS record of 3:58:25 to beat Alan Webb's old mark.

Ciara Mageean 4.08 for 1500 indoors in Karlsruhe. New Irish indoor record. Bodes well for the year ahead.

Siofra runs 2.03 and shaves a second off the 28 year Villanova indoor 800m record.

Not often you get a world lead time from an Irish person at any distance. Also an Irish record and 6th European alltime.
    M 500 m A2
    1 Mark English 93 IRL 1:00.93 WL
    2 Erik Sowinski 89 USA 1:01.72
    3 Mohammad Abbas 96 QAT 1:02.51
    4 Adam Danielsson 93 SWE 1:04.55

WR for Souleiman also with a 2.14.20 in the 1km, bodes well for Dibaba's WR attempt later.

Rose Anne Gilligan the pick of the Irish in Athlone. World indoor qualifying time of 4:11.07 (new PB too) in finishing 3rd in 1,500m

Travers with a 7.55 in the 3000m in Boston yesterday. Hon John.

John finished 2nd in that race, behind Ahmed Bile who is the son of Abdi Bile (1500m gold at 1987 WC + bronze behind Morceli and Cacho at 1993 WC).

He's running the Armory Invitational Mile along with John Coghlan (+Drew Hunter) at the Millrose Games on Saturday, while Ciara Mageean is running the women's Wanamaker Mile. The fields for both men's and women's Wanamaker mile look really good: http://www.nyrrmillrosegames.org/fields-2016/

Excellent, will be great to see all the Irish in action and a strong field in the Wanamaker Mile too. Must try and catch these.

Is it not a bit odd that women race over 3k at this? It's not the 1980s anymore.

Or is it a case that they struggle to get big numbers on the women's side and a 3k can pull in some middle distance runners to boost numbers?

Possible there tight time wise to and 3k is a faster race.

    This,

This race is set up as the most competitive race in the country with the deepest fields (Nationals included)

We aren't the strongest nation depth wise over 5k so 3k makes sense for this race.

    Unreal stats from the race

67 men sub 15 minutes with the entire field going quicker than 16.55

A stat to remember the next time I finish high up in some halfpenny local race. I would've been last by about a minute in Armagh!! What meet is that folks? Track or road, or what?

Road, it's the Armagh International Road Races. Think a sub 17 5k is needed to run the 5k.

I belatedly realised that a track 5k with more than 100 runners might be kinda messy. Feeling a bit light headed this morning!

I thought he drifted in and out of the race quite a bit. First thought he was going to sit in 3rd which looked perfect but then lost a couple of places and did very well to finish second.

    Miles Games on now Live.

Didn't realise auto correct had changed the Millrose to 'miles'

At the moment it's boys/girls and college stuff. Some crazy poor pacing by the youngsters.

That's an indoor PB by a second and a half, if his listed 3:59.62 indoor pb is accurate, and puts him 13th on the Irish all-time indoor mile list.

4:28.40 for Ciara Mageean in the mile - a new indoor NR.

Bit behind but a catchup from NCAA indoor nationals at the weekend. There was 4 Irish running.

Siofra just missed out on making the final by a tenth of a second, running 2:04.77 in the first heat of the 800m prelims. Sarah Collins finished 12th in the 5000m running 16:33.

On the men's side, Sean Tobin anchored the Ole Miss DMR team home to third with a 3:57 mile split and Harry Purcell ran a 48.23 400m split for Villanova on the way to 6th in the DMR.

Norah Newcomer Pieterse first woman in 1:19:50. Both Mayo AC, both off to Rotterdam.

2 great pb's. John is racing 20 years at the pointy end, this is his first sub 70 half. Maybe a lesson for anyone who thinks they're done after 5 or 6 years.

Just spotted this now. I was delighted with my run in Mullingar I told a few people (who asked) that I was going to give it a go but I don't know if I actually believed it myself. I can't describe the feeling of looking at the watch 100m from the finish line and knowing it was going to happen. I have thrown the toys out of the pram and given up many times but days like that make it worth while. The course and organisation was brilliant and the weather was good so things fell into place for me. Your quite right Paul, running is a sport for the long haul and making incremental improvements over years not just weeks or months but it requires a lot of focus that most people are not willing to give. If you stick with it consistently and are lucky with injuries(I'm blessed) the results will come. Thanks Tang for the bit of boards fame, nice to see myself in the results thread where the elite usually dwell. Sorry for bringing the thread off topic.

    Delighted for you, John.
I was hoping to talk to you last Sunday but got called away to a minor emergency down town and literally ran out of the building before prize-giving. Ill see you in Rotterdam if not sooner, will you be at Kilmovee?

Thanks to tang for posting, if you're not elite then who is?
