Whatever you'd normally eat, no need to wait after eating unless maybe you're going to race.

I find eggs or rashers giving me good boost before long ride. I usually wait for an hour or so before going out, otherwise I feel like i want to throw up when I start pushing. having said that, I don't go slow as I find it boring. if you just want to spin at low pace, you should be OK as in above post.

I like a chicken sandwich if I'm going for a long one. Personally I don't have any problem eating just before getting on the bike, but it varies from person to person.

I find a bowl of porridge and mug of tea work very well before a long spin in the cold weather.

This, well porridge on water and no sugar or dairy in the tea. Add in a couple of eggs too an hour or so before you head out. Porridge is slow release energy

Nice fresh brew of coffee with a tablespoon of coconut oil down the hatch and out the door

Mug of coffee with brown bread & jam works well for me, changing to Porridge is quite possible for long Summer spins.

Depends on your level of fitness, how long it would take you to do that sort of distance, whether you are doing hills, or maybe it's flat, etc. I wouldn't have much before a 70km spin, maybe a bit of coffee and toast, or maybe nothing at all-if you just get up, get your gear on and head out the door it saves quite a bit of time.

A bowl of corn flakes (large) .... Then a 70k cycle, followed by raiding the fridge and eating anything that's not nailed down! 😜

Your last meal before exercise isn't everything.

No magic food will save you if your overall diet is sh1te.

This is as simple as diet can be made

Thanks for all d responses. think I will go for a blow of Porridge and a big cup of coffee and head out 30 min after.

as d last one I done I each two eggs and toast and got on d bike straight away and felt I was about to get sick until about 25 km in.

I would hope to do it about 2 hrs 30 min.

    What does coconut oil do?

It's just pure fat, mainly saturated.

It does contain some medium chain triglycerides fats which the body will burn more readily than most fats rather than storing.

The caffeine probably does more although I even skip that now. Bed to bike in ten minutes ftw!

I like to eat a packet of jaffa cakes along with a big glass of chocolate milk before I go for a spin.

I make no special effort to eat before spins or training. I used to, now I don't bother as eating before training just makes me feel dead and slow. Almost all of my spins are done after breakfast, so I have my normal breakfast (an egg, some natural yogurt, a banana with honey and lemon). I don't bring anything with me, but we usually stop for coffee (scone!), no big disaster if we don't (not nice to stop in the wet). I suppose eat enough to keep you going but not enough to slow you down, everyone's different and what works for one may not work for another.

It's a personal thing really what to eat. I used to eat loads before I went out, and bring a banana with me, and eat loads when I got home. But last year I didn't bother, maybe I have gotten used to it now. I used to be ravenous after a spin, I'm not now. Maybe do what ever feel sight for you and bring stuff with you. And drink. I drink loads, not everyone does but you're better looking at it than for it.

Wishbone Ash told me he eats pasta before going,
Worked for me for my 2 longest spins

Although for 70 km now I'd be a mug of coffee and bring a banana for the road

Forget the cycling I would stay where I was.

Bowl of porridge made on water with some honey if doing a long spin.
Maybe a small bowl of Rice Krispies if it is a small cycle. Nothing too much normally though, had 2 slices of toast and a cup of coffee this morning at 8am and went out on a 50km cycle at 11.30am and didn't eat anything on route. When I finished I just had a slice of bread at after I had washed the bike down and had a shower.
Basically what I am trying to say is that it is entirely personal and what works for some won't work for others and vice versa. Experiment and see what works best for you.

Normally go for porridge or overnight oats. If I'm up a bit before heading out, I might have wholemeal toast and jam just before heading out.

Not particularly trying to lose weight anymore, more bothered about staying with the group, so try to have something every hour after that (current favourite is GCN Energy Bars cut to a couple of mouthful fulls).

At the weekends for spins of 50km+ I just eat a bowl of muesli and a mug of tea. Then I tend to eat every 25/30km or so - nothing major just a banana or chocolate bar if no coffee stop is planned. Otherwise I'll have a croissant or scone and a cup of scald mid ride.

If I'm cycling to work (19km) I don't bother eating beforehand - I just eat a bowl of muesli about half an hour after getting to work.

I don't really overthink the whole eating thing and just eat when I'm hungry but I wouldn't feel comfortable going out on a 50km spin with an empty stomach.

Usually muesli and bananas that bruise easily.

I'd normally take bananas with me (browner rather than greener), but it sort of rhymed there.

My diet is pure sh1te and I seem to get by ok. I have no interest in food/food ingredients/food preparation so I just eat whatever I can rummage from the fridge/cupboards that doesn't require any cooking. If I know I'm going out for a long one, I'll eat pasta if someone else cooks it or else out of a tin.

Scrambled egg on toast or whatever cereal is in the press, mug of tea 20/30 mins before heading out. Usually bring a chocolate bar along for the ride.

I did 70k this morning. Breakfast was a bowl of porridge made with milk, walnuts, cinnamon and honey and I brought a banana and 3 triangles from a large Toblerone.I need food on a spin or I get light headed.

thanks all for d advice. so I went out on my spin this morning only done 56 km (took a wrong turn)
so I eat porridge with banna, blueberry and brown sugar and water.
to wash it down had coffe. then on d bike 30 min later.
felt alot better (def was eating too much before other spins) , but stomach was a bit funny 1st 10 km but I definitely know now it was d coffe.

ate a banna at d 30 km mark. then when done stooped at Caffè for coffe and carrot cake.

Not specifically for cycling, but if I know I will be working hard physically or won't have a chance to eat lunch, I mash a banana in a bowl until smooth, add three eggs and beat as you would for prepping scrambled eggs. Add in oats to thicken and cook as you would with an omelette. Optional maple syrup/honey once cooked.

Tastes great and keeps you full for hours.

Coffee is generally considered to be a diuretic, so not a great choice for hydration before a long spin. While there's plenty of discussion on this, I personally wouldn't go near coffee before a long spin.
