WD 4TB Desktop hard drive & El Capitan

I've just received a 4TB Western Digital My Book Studio and can’t get it to mount on my Mid 2011 iMac running El Capitan .. all my other drives mount no problem. It isn’t visible on the desktop, in finder or in Disk Utility. Would anyone have any idea why this might be?
