So I've got goals in each area of my life:

Health, fitness, adventure, experiences, new skills I want to learn, aim to read more books, relationships, money...e.t.c.

I'm looking for some ideas from others, particularly in the adventure/experiences area.

    What are your goals?

Run more, get an organisation I'm involved with up off the ground and a household name, finish college and get my hall decorated once and for all.

During holidays I was drinking less coffee and realized I sleep better so my aim is to drink only three espressos per day plus a few cups of tea. It's a pain but one day at a time... :D Oh and to become millionaire.

Save to buy a house next year.
    Lose weight (again)
Drink less coffee and for that matter alcohol
Plan a trip to Iceland and maybe Florence

My main goal is to be happy with my life as it is. Not to be constantly looking for happiness elsewhere, you know? It's a big challenge, were pushed so much to want "things" to make us happy.

Have two. To try get on top of my health issues. Have made proactive steps already.

And to be kinder to myself & more accepting of myself. I'm my own worst enemy sometimes.

I told myself I'm making 2016 the first year in 11 years where I don't let my mental health control my life. The first 9 days of the year have been challenging to say the least, but I'm keeping it together so far.

I'm also going to try kick the smokes, get down to a size 12 (currently a 16 down from a 24) and do Darkness into Light. Realistic goals which should be attainable if the first and most important one is looked after.

Finally figure out whether to stay in England or go home to Dublin. It's something that's always on my mind. And be ok with either decision.

Complete my foreign work assignment, which I'm on now. It's definitely a challenge.

Run more, and really start to think of exercise as being good for mental health, whatever about weight loss. That one's going well so far.

Reach my target of X amount of savings by the end of the summer. :)

Health/Fitness: This is a big one for me. I want to get back into fitness and get my fitness level up. I could do with losing some weight also. Both in the process. Someone above mentioned DIL which I did last year walking. This year I want to be able to run/jog it.

Career: This is only going up and up at the moment. I'm getting two increases in salary this year. I just want to gain more experience and be the best I can in the role in the firm I work in.

Education: I hope by the end of 2016 I will be sitting my final accountancy exams.

Adventure: I'm the process planning a holiday with a friend during the summer. We are planning to go to America and I can't wait. Over the next few weeks we will finalise our trip. I'm very restricted on when I can go on holidays and the number of days I can take so I think this will be my big trip of 2016.

I wouldn't mind getting serious about someone in 2016 either. :o

I hope to graduate from college this year and move onto a Masters this September.

I would love to lose a few kilos and tone up, I am working on it and feeling positive.

I'm aiming to drink more water a day.

Read 3+ books a month, I used to be a very active reader but have slowed down in the past few years. :P

Record and release a new album, and hopefully get some good reviews!

Go for more job promotions and opportunities, if you're not in you can't win

Keep going with my weight loss and hopefully reach maintenance stage (2.5 stone down, another 3 or 4 to go)

Finally get my full licence (been saying this for years, for real this time)

Restart our savings that have been depleted from my unpaid maternity leave

Other big ones that I'm not going to write down as they depend on lots of external factors :)

Make a career change to one that doesn't cause me as much pressure/stress.
Start putting fitness first and stick with an activity.
Make some new friends and widen my social circle.
Adopt a more positive approach to life's challenges!

Get through the rest of the college term relatively unscathed...and pass it!

Lose weight, sick of feeling crap about myself and wearing baggy clothes to hide my body. Have a friends wedding later in the year so thats perfect motivation!

Id love to go to the Euros in France but that probably wont happen!

Loose weight, as always, Get fit and healthy and feel better generally.
Be happy with life and look forward to things rather than feel I have to suffer through them.
Go on holidays and enjoy it, and do something other than eat drink and swim.
See much more of my family
    Get my husband outdoors more.

I've been thinking lots about what I want to achieve in 2016. It's hard to put into words - lots of things are personal to me so I'll just write them down, but generally the ones I'll discuss with people are:
    - Cycle more: Last year I did the Galway cycle, but I only managed to complete the "down" leg - I cycled back about 70km. The aim is to go down AND back this year. 400km over two days. I also want to do at least one Sportif a month, and finally climb some mountains in Wicklow. I don't know how many km I'm hoping to cover but I'll aim for maybe 2,500 and reassess during the year.
    - Get weight loss back on track: In 2014 I lost 7 stone. I start 2016 more or less the same weight as I started 2015, so the aim is to make some basic lifestyle changes and lose another 3-4 stone over the course of the year. Might seem easy with the amount of cycling I'm planning, but most of the reason to cycle is the coffee and cake :)
    - Do more fun things: Be it alone, or in a group. I'm going to make an effort to do more fun things. Over Christmas I went to the cinema by myself and I loved it. I'd like to go for walks on the weekends, or go bowling or something. Not every weekend - maybe once a month.
    - Make a decision about my future: No biggie - just decide the rest of my life :pac: I graduated from my PhD in 2014 - I've been postdoccing since. I need to decide if I want to stick with postdoc, or head for something more secure.
    - Learn how to run: I hate running. I find it so boring. But I need to learn how to do 5km at least, as one of my goals is also to...
    - Do a triathalon: I love swimming. I love cycling. I can't run for nuts. But I want to challenge myself to push myself out of my comfort zone and do a triathalon. It was the plan for last year but then I hurt my shoulder and couldn't swim.
    - Avoid hospitals: Last year, between tummy, shoulder, asthma, I spent more time than I care to remember in hospitals. This year I'm going to keep track of things and nip them before they become bigger issues.
    - Save: Not putting an amount - I just want to have a bit of comfort on a rainy day.
    - Go on two city breaks: During my PhD when I couldn't afford it, I went to many places - London, Paris, Rome, Denmark, Sweden, Amsterdam, Germany... Since I started in the real world I've gone nowhere. So this year I'll go to the places I want to see - hopefully Prague and maybe somewhere in Croatia or similar.

Last year was a tough year. My aunt / godmother / second mother lost her battle with ovarian cancer last January, so it started the year off on a sad note. I'm not going to say that I'm over her death - I don't think that's something that will ever leave me. But I feel ready to live my life for me again, and to try live the life that I know that she would be proud of me for. Her "parting gift" (as such) was my bike. She got her husband to buy it for me after she passed away. So, in cycling, it feels like she's there sometimes.

I'm gonna check back in on this thread throughout the year as a way to keep track of how I'm doing. I may update / change goals depending on things, but they're my aims for 2016!

This is one of the first years where I have been really looking forward to the year ahead.
We have quite a lot planned for this year. While we both work weekdays full time, this means our weekends are free and tend to get filled up. I couldn't wait to get the calendar for 2016 to fill in what's going on. We have two couples getting married this year so that's 6 weekends planned with hens, stags and weddings. We like rallying so that's at least 8 weekends marked off with races we must attend. I've a few runs planned for this year so they are marked up also. Then with birthdays, bank holidays etc free weekends are few and far between until mid July at least!

    Few goals for the year:
To run more, get quicker. I'm following a facebook group about doing 5km a day for the month of Jan and ok I've walked some of them, I'm enjoying getting out, making the time and the effort and getting my year off to an active start. I also want to get my son into an athletics club once he is over his knee injury, I would like to him make more friends as some of the kids living near us his age have moved away.

I plan to get more work related reading and courses done. I really let it fall behind last year. I am going to set aside 1 hour a week in work to do it and an hour one or two evenings a week to get reading done. Also do more online courses, they are far handier that driving to Dublin for a 3 hour course that really takes up most of a day with travelling.

Would like to make more friends. I have a few friends from my school days I don't see them as often cos we are all so busy with work, life and family. I would like to see them more. But I would also like to make some new friends that I could see or chat to more often or who would live nearer to me. I'm just not very good at making friends or doing small talk or talking to people I don't know and can come off as stand offish.

I have a long list of goals this year! :/ I'm hoping that's a good thing!
    • Learn German - Maybe not fluently but at least to B1 level. It's getting embarrassing at this stage! I haven't actually scheduled anything yet but it's still early days!
    • Keep a food diary - I have some food issues that I never really addressed and just referred to as "dodgy tummy". I've started a food diary and am aiming to eat healthier. Also weighing myself daily as part of this. So far, so good with this one!
    • Meet new people - It's very easy to stick in my comfort zone here, especially as I don't speak the language but I'm aiming to go to at least 3 of these foreigner meet-ups this year!
    • Write a short story - I've an idea in my head for ages, an Irish dystopian story. In my head it's a best seller of course! :P I need the motivation to actually write it down!!
    • Cop on with health stuff - I've been lazy about health things (again the language issue helps) but this year I want to get my stupid wisdom teeth out (all 4 yoinked out a few hours ago, ow!), get the coil fitted (hopefully at the end of the month) and go to the doctor for a full check up. Maybe even a nutritionist if the food diary idea doesn't work out.
    • Continue to read - I started a reading log on Boards at the end of last year and I'd like to try and keep it up all year!
    • Travel more - I love travelling! I want to visit Vancouver in March but I'd also like to get in at least 3 other new cities this year. I really have no excuse as I'm on the mainland and I can get buses everywhere!
    • Cook more and update cooking blog! - I've gotten lazy about cooking and I'd really like to get back into it! I also really need to update my food blog and continue to update it on a regular basis when I find recipes I like! Otherwise I end up just cooking the same things over and over again.

I feel like there should probably be a fitness related goal there somewhere too but that's already a hefty list!

Best of luck to all you ladies with your goals. :)

    I have a few.

    1. Push myself further with my career. I've been considering a move to the UK. 2016 will be my first year qualified and I want to make the right decisions.

    2. Take life a little lighter. Increase my meditation practice.

    3. Join something. A writer's group, hiking club, wild camping. They're the three things I've been thinking about.

    4. Do more and think less! :p

    5. Be kinder to myself. Remember to be always grateful that I'm alive and housed and fed.

5 months since I wrote this. Some updates:

    - Cycle more: Did Galway Cycle again. Only managed 300km for the entire weekend rather than the promised 400km. However I did little or no training because I was sick in the lead up. Happy with my contribution to it though. Cycling km to date - approx 1,100. A few spins coming up over the next weeks and months so will easily double that I'm sure.
    - Get weight loss back on track: Slow and steady wins the race... Not gonna make my 4 stone target. Have lost all of the Christmas weight, so have actually lost almost 11 kg. However I had put on nearly 8 so that wasn't much of an achievement. With my exercise though I'm down a dress size, so at least I look alright!
    - Do more fun things: Am doing this. Went sailing last night. Great fun.
    - Make a decision about my future: This will be a challenge. My current contract expires April 2017 so I have some time to decide.
    - Learn how to run: Have been taking a lazy week, but ran 5km two or three times in a row the week before last, so if I can just keep it up a little bit, I might even be able to knock some time off it!
    - Do a triathalon: Have selected a triathlon! Will organise entry shortly.
    - Avoid hospitals: So far, so good!
    - Save: Not really happened yet, but I'm not living beyond my means and anything I have bought has been useful!!
    - Go on two city breaks: Have gone as far as looking at flights. Have more-or-less decided on Madrid and Iceland/Prague. Must make the leap and book soon though!

So the next few months I shall/should focus on:
    - eating less crisps and chocolate so that the exercise/dropping a dress size converts on the scales
    - get more cycling under my belt, starting with Lap De Gaps this Saturday (first time going over Wicklow Gap and Sally Gap!)
    - book flights and triathlon
    - start to save!!!

Will check in again in a few months. Hope everyones 2016 is going well.

With 2 months left in the year, I'm taking stock on my 2016 goals to see how I fared, and what can be achieved by the end of the year!
Cycling: Hit the 2,500km, managed to go over a few mountains, happy out on the bike.
Get weight loss back on track: Hmmm... Hovering between two weights constantly. Same dress size.
    - Do more fun things: Check.
    - Make a decision about my future: I'm putting together an application to do a masters in education so that I could become a school teacher
    - Learn how to run: Still hate running
    - Do a triathalon: Check.
    - Avoid hospitals: Epic fail. Just one A&E trip though for sudden blindness in one eye.
    - Save: Enough for a rainy day.
    - Go on two city breaks: Second epic fail. Various reasons.

Two months left. Realistically one month left :pac:

Aim to get back exercising tonight. Have already signed up for a bigger triathlon next year so I really need to learn how to run. Should help me hover around the lower weight.

A few hospital trips coming up but for unexpected illness rather than things within my control.

    All in all, productive year!

If it makes you feel a little better, I can't run at all. I tried it last year, and couldn't get more than a couple of minutes without impact pain in my knees. Cycling is good though.

Weight loss is hard. I am slowly working on it, but still look like a small rhino in the wrong clothes. It is a long term plan anyway.

Fun things: Yes and no. My confidence goes up and down.

Future: I'm kinda stalled after my cert in digital marketing. I don't know whether I want to pursue academia more or try to dive in to work.

Hospitals: HA! My life has revolved around hospitals for 3 years now. Major surgery 2013, minor surgeries 2014, major surgery 2015. Haven't been hospitalised this year, but I have outpatients appointments regularly.

Focus on everything you have completed though. Reading your latest list, you have done quite a lot. Rather than lamenting what you haven't done, acknowledge what you have done, tweak the remainder to (possibly) make it easier to achieve (even if it means you have to go over 2 years) and try again. Don't let it get you down though :)

Oh I'm in no way letting it get me down! I'm happy with any sort of progress.

And I feel your pain on hospitals. They suck.

Hoping to get back on my bike on Saturday! Very excited.

    • Write a short story - I've an idea in my head for ages, an Irish dystopian story. In my head it's a best seller of course! :P I need the motivation to actually write it down!!

Oh god, I knew I should have scheduled a half year review of these! I've been dreading coming back in here since I saw new posts but I guess I did accomplish some things so far this year, it could be worse!

German - nowhere near where I want to be but I'm a dämn sight better than this time last year thanks to a course. I've gotten lazy since the summer, this is going to still be on my 2017 goals.

Food diary - I stuck with the weighing myself daily for ages but lost interest. I never did the food diary either. Funnily enough I have been doing both of these since Nov 1st (before reading what I had said) as I have planned a healthy November. My diet has dramatically improved since I started using one of those food services that sends you the ingredients anyway, I now eat vegetarian at least twice a week and my tummy has been calmer.

Meet new people - Hmm, did pretty poorly here, only attended one of those foreigner meetups. And now it's winter so it's tougher to get out and about. Another one for next years list. :o

Short story - so far down my list of priorities that I probably haven't though about it since writing this list in January. :/ So much to do, so little time. Some day!

Health stuff- well I did the coil which has been great. I had the wisdom teeth out and did the doctor check up and got some travel vaccines. I even had an eye test so I'm feeling good about this goal.

Continue reading - ok so this one I did keep up, albeit it in fits and starts! Added 28 new books to the log this year, and should likely have 3 more before the year is out. My rate of reading went down slightly since Pokemon go was released though! :P Also trying to include more classics and books I'd normally not pick up.

Travel more - Unfortunately didn't make it to Vancouver but I did get in a fair amount of travelling this year! :) As well as getting home to Ireland twice, I visited the Dominican Republic (north coast), London, Vienna, Berlin, Stuttgart and the Mosel. Lots within Germany but still good going I think! Also hit London, San Francisco and Denver for work but didn't get to see much, and in Lisbon for the Web Summit next week too. Happy with this one.

Cook more and update blog - I think I managed to update the blog once this year, poor effort from me. Since joining Marley Spoon though I cook way more, in fact I haven't had the same meal twice in the last 6 months! It does mean I've gotten lazier about experimenting and developing meals but you can't win em all!

A mixed bag over all but some successes. Still some time to get more done before the year is out!!
