Anyone gonna be tuning in for this? I enjoy watching some of the marathons.

For those who do not know what it is, basically it is an event that happens twice a year where people play games for charity. They try to complete the games as fast as possible and set records.

    Here is the schedule: https://gamesdonequick.com/schedule

You will be able to watch here: http://www.twitch.tv/GamesDoneQuick

    I love it :)

I'll be tuning in and donating. Usually it's a week of me being grumpy and very tired at work and I drop everything to watch it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,179 ✭✭✭salamanca22

I am excited :) I have nothing on for the next week so will be able to catch a lot of it.

I am rewatching the yoshi's island run from last summer again right now :D

Didn't some guy make a complete eejit out of himself last year with his commentary?

What major games have come out of AGDQ?

What major games have come out of AGDQ?

Huh? It's not a game development marathon like the Ludum Dare but a marathon of people trying to finish playing games as fast as possible. They attempt to break records, though most of the runs are not perfect because the people playing are usually commentating at the same time which sometimes puts them off their game. It's more the novelty than anything but they do raise a lot of money for charity. Last summer I think it was 1.3mil for doctors without borders. They also give out prizes to donors, I have yet to win anything :P maybe this time!

First game is at 5pm today and is a splatoon any% run which means they do not need to do everything in the game, just finish to the credits.

Yeah it was the crash bandicoot runner making suicide jokes... No cool.

Still it's a great event, very entertaining and it raises a lot for charity.

Watching the Splatoon run. It's mad some of the things they find

Yeah these guys play the same game over and over again trying to shave a second off their best time. They try every possible calculable maneuver to find these tricks. Sometimes manipulating the memory itself as is the case famously in the earlier pokemon games.

Splatoon run was fun to watch, 14 seconds off the world record! Same guy has the record anyway :P

I remember back while playing Skyrim someone said you can do the main game in under three hours.

I tried and it took my 3.5 hours to beat it, literally doing noting but main quest.

I'm probably getting it mixed up, but was it AGDQ event where it was two player Dark Souls? As in two people playing on one controller? I can't fathom how they managed that. Can't even play it on one.

Man, the guy is bombing round resi evil with japanese language in the game but it's obvious he knows what everything already says and menu options. He is showing how to go up/down stairs at an angle to break the animation and it makes you faster on stairs, madness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,179 ✭✭✭salamanca22

That aladdin ending was pretty funny :P

Looking forward to Kingdom Hearts run. It's a god awful game with god awful fans but last years speed run was great fun. Best thing about ADGQ is usually the best games are the ones you don't expect, like the Tetris showcase last year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,096 ✭✭✭✭the groutch

I think the "big one" this year will be the Super Mario Maker blind race.
Some of the frame perfect stuff Mitch & Dram can do is just mindblowing.

I call them "Keyaboos." Like weaboos...but with a key. :p

The couch makes the run to be honest. If the runner or somebody commentating on the couch is interesting, funny, or has a great voice it makes for a good watch.

Love watching GDQ. Battleblock Theater is awesome to watch when Stamper is around.

Ori is up next. Half the chat will probably go straight onto steam and buy it.

    Or at least they should.

theres always a few super cringe moments at these. I love the event though, absolutely amazing to see games getting crushed six ways from sunday and the atmosphere is always great too. Something to look forward to post-christmas :p

heres clips of the cringe, the "i'd really prefer if you'd be quiet" one is just.... gaaahhh :o

That "can you stop?" girl is the perfect example of the modern narcissist.

Thousands of people donating their time and money for charity must now stop what they are doing, because this is all about me! The event lasts an entire week. She picked OOT because the room was full, and it had the most views.

she now works for them. my source said "apparently she banned constumes" and "being distracting in the background" which is utterly hilarious

That Gimmick run was insane. You may not think it from looking at the guys playing it but even finishing that game is insanely hard let alone getting the secret ending and speed running it. I have the game myself and it's up there as one of the hardest NES games ever made.

Big Jon commenting Battletoads, is he doing any runs this year, he's usually more entertaining than the runs!

Nope. He was banned from running any games this time and security nearly threw him out when he arrived. He's been told he can stay, but not run anything. The event has gotten so PC and sterile due to the higher ups that you have to be PG at all times.

The lad Noir who ran the Half-life 2 run wont be invited back again after the jokes he made. They told him to tone it down mid run and after what happened last year, they will do it quietly so as not to start a reddit riot but he wont be back. It's a shame really. It's ridiculous that they are running M rated games with guys heads being blown off and yet Mike Uyama wants it to be PG. It's like they have forgotten what made the event successful in the first place. Personality and having fun.

That's really disappointing. Always loved watching his runs.

Donkey Kong block was excellent. Mario up next. They are starting with Kaizo Mario which is ridiculous for anyone who hasnt seen it before, its well worth the watch.

Pulling a late one for Mario block.

Not the biggest DKC fan but the speedruns are always a highlight.

Hold on so the HL2 guy was banned for the 'wood' comments...

FFS it was stupid but that's some PC bull****.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,084 ✭✭✭✭Kirby

Not officially. His run is over and hes still there watching. But people who made jokes like that have never been allowed to run again. You have to apply every GDQ to run games and there is little doubt he wont be chosen again. They didnt throw him out like last years suicide guy because of the controversey it caused. They will just shadow ban him.

edit - apparently not banned: http://i.imgur.com/VADEOrz.jpg

More than likely if what I'm reading about Big Jon. He was banned because he showed a copy of NES Open Golf at SGDQ and was banned for apparently anti golfer remarks? Like what, is that real?

Took me a while to pick up on it too because of how petty it is but more than likely it was the Dr. Mossman take my wood when he was hitting her on the head with the wood splinter to make her teleport.

This Kaizo run is epic. :D
