    That's right.

Saying there is no injuries which is amazing considering the size of the fire!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,318 ✭✭✭✭Menas

Hard to believe that there are no injuries given the extent of that fire.
And the NYE celebrations will go ahead with the fire burning in the skyline on the background.

Someone get Steve McQueen on the blower.

Good gods, that's a hell of a blaze. Amazing that no-one was hurt.

"No injuries" and fireworks display to proceed - lit in part by a burning hotel.

How does one put out a fire 150-200 metres up?

It's amazing to be watching it burning away in front of us.. but the new years celebrations will go ahead as planned?

They must have one good evacuation protocol for there to be no injuries. Fair play

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,586 ✭✭✭4068ac1elhodqr

700 people including employees, visitors, detainees and security staff evacuated in just 3 mins.
but they also said the fire was under control, which it clearly isn't.

It's only the outside thats burning, sprinklers are protecting the inside.

I don't believe that there are no casualties. Even if they were lucky enough to evacuate quickly enough that you don't get any fire or smoke injuries, you'd expect there to be some broken bones from people tripping over each other in getting away. I suspect the ministry of propaganda is lying to us.

Of course, because it would be so easy to cover up deaths and injuries in a hotel filled with foreigners /s

A guy called in to skynews, Dan Morrison, he said he was in the restaurant when they started evacuating. Took 20 mins for him and he was on the 13th floor.
The fire clearly is not under control as you say. So I think they are spinning us a line to try to avoid panic and/or damage to Dubai's reputation.

They'll knock up a new skyscraper in a few days bless them.

This is the hotel in question... 63 stories.... beautiful building... very imposing when you are there...

The pictures on twitter are incredible... such a huge building, completely engulfed.

You're completely speculating, Yes you're right it is unlikely to say that noone has been injured, but it is entirely possible.

Not sure you can, tbh. Only so far even a high pressure hose would spray, if its inside you can't drop water on it exactly......doubtless better informed folk will be along to inform us shortly.

Its easy enough in what is an authoritarian state with Internet filtering of anything critical of the government and where VPN use is illegal and punishable under the law.

    You could delay things anyway.

Jetpacks! And interestingly (not really) Dubai was looking in to ordering some recently.

Yes he is speculating but anything is more credible than the official line.

Why does a hotel have detainees?

'Fire is under control '. What utter lies. It is clearly burning out of control.

Why does a hotel have detainees?

Because it's an authoritarian state posing as a giant shopping mall?

These buildings were in general lashed together by slaves, they make Tom McFeelys work look like true craftsmanship.

Dubai is the sin city of the ME. Probably some Saudi prince's sex slaves. They can have their fun and still be back home in time for evening prayer.

I've been to Dubai a few times with work. Probably my favourite city in the world to visit. Hopefully everyone got out.

    Absolutely I am speculating.

Very impressive if they did happen to get 60 floors evacuated without injury, and also rather early for them to be making such statements when the fire is clearly still burning.

If there's no casualties which I hope there's not it's a damn sight better to watch live than any fireworks display I have seen today.

Why does a hotel have detainees?

The imported builders that missed their deadlines, took off their t-shirts, or some other minor offense perhaps? Report was from Emirates 24|7 via googlenews/newsnow feeds.

Wonder if a couple of kingsize sheets tied at the corners would be of any use if trapped on the top floor and aiming for the pool. Failing that, a 80kg circa payload drone to deliver to ground.

"90% under control" according to authorities on BBC News, I suppose those experts know best it's what they do on a daily basis.

Wouldn't be surprised if the whole building collapsed at this stage, totally out of control.

CNN have a person there using skype.

Doesn't matter. I said I hoped there wouldn't be fatalities and you went off on one talking about those who lost their lives during construction. A life is a life

No way it is 90% under control, unless the plan is to burn down the building.
