Interesting website. I'll take it with a grain of salt or two as I do pretty much all stats but Buckley's weekly rankings among the pro12 props are also impressive.

Italy Wales. Anyone care? Will Italy keep them to double figures?

Really a dull final day. Especially when compared to the last 2 years.

True. But it's still a great excuse to sit around and drink beer.

And avoid going to visit the OH's parents :D

Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics. - Mark Twain

So lets see what random things the stats tell us that we may not have expected. The top tacklers are easy, and interesting enough.

    Tackles
    J. Hardie 68
    T. Faletau 64
    J. Haskell 63
    G. Kruis 58
    F. Minto 58

But who made the most tackles without missing? Many of you would guess J.Gray, and you'd be right if he'd played another game (I assume), but actually, it was Zanni!

    Tackles without missing
    A. Zanni 57
    J. Gray 52
    L. Charteris 34
    B. Davies 31
    Y. Camara 25

And the bad guys - Who missed the most? Bad news if you were one of the many news outlets that had these three guys in your "lions team of the tournament".

    Player Tackles Missed Tackles Percent
    W. Nel 13 70%
    O. Farrell 12 79%
    D. Hartley 11 77%

Talking about carrys is popular, I don't actually have the stats, but I do have "droppings" - sorry, is that a little rude. If you're a back 3 player who does that thing where you "knock on" instead of catching an offensive up and under to spoil the opposition possession then I guess you're going to score highly. Which explains some of this. But if your second name is Davies you have some explaining to do.

    Player Knock On
    T. Seymour 8
    A. Trimble 7
    M. Brown 7
    Jonathan Davies 6
    L. Williams 6
    M. Bellini 6
    J. Hardie 5
    L. Sarto 5
    G. Ford 5
    D. Chouly 5
    G. Davies 5

So some people made a lot of yards....

    Player Metres Gained
    G. North 444
    M. Brown 400
    S. Hogg 381
    V. Vakatawa 329
    B. Vunipola 316
    A. Watson 279
    L. Williams 278
    S. Parisse 256
    R. Henshaw 256
    S. Zebo 230

But if you make a sum to ask "how many yards to you make, per knock on" you get a different looking list. (I feel the list is unfair on Heaslip and Spedding, who get the same score as if they'd made 1 knock on, maybe it should be value plus 1 or something).

Player Metres Gained Knock On Metres Per knock
    S. Parisse 256 1 256
    S. Hogg 381 2 191
    S. Spedding 186 0 186
    B. Vunipola 316 2 158
    G. North 444 3 148
    J. Joseph 138 1 138
    J. Heaslip 131 0 131
    R. Henshaw 256 2 128
    G. Garcia 128 1 128
    S. Zebo 230 2 115

Alas, the stats I have are reasonably limited, there is little more I could tell you without having some info about line breaks and defenders beaten. But it is interesting how a player like Hardie can mix the good and bad so much.

He made the most tackles of anyone, and missed the most tackles of anyone. He won the highest amount of ball of any Backrow, and knocked on the most times of anyone. He made the same amount of yards with ball in hand as David Denton, who played 240 fewer minutes.

He had a great championship, he was huge for Scotland, but he needs to train with J.Gray more and iron out those errors. He wouldn't start under Joe.

The Belfast Telegraph's Team of the Tournament is a word for word copy of the ITV/RBS one except they swapped out Biggar for Sexton.
