Wouldn't be surprised if Fr bulls back €30 + this year.

Good think ones will be around the 120 mark. I'd say poorer quality will fall as low as 50-60 quid. They are around 60 overpriced at the moment.

Last two fr bulls I sold last Mon in bandon made 120, 3 weeks old.previous to that Cheapest ones from autumn calving sold for 115 and highest 130. Sold in groups by haulier. BBx made 290 at 4 weeks. Sold two bbx out of yard to cousin at 250 one heifer at 10 days old and 1 bull at 5 days one to double suckle and the younger one as he had a cow lose a calf. Dunno what the spring will bring id say prices will be back. There will be alot of calves appearing younger than previous as lads won't wait till 6 weeks with quota gone I reckon and as dawg said earlier in month calves are cheap on continent as well

The fact that calves are cheap on the continent could have v serious consequences for us dairy guys who relied on the export as a market for all our 'by product' bull calves

I doubt it but then again I can never understand how lads can pay some of the prices for calves.

not too bad I suppose for frx. 200 for two weeks old mightnt be too bad. should get 220 - 250 for bulls?

would say the sooner you sell them the better, before the big glut comes

Wait till the end of the month at least, January is traditionally a poor month for calf prices

Was waiting for the big glut to come last year and for prices to drop but it never happened. All the super levie calves that were talked off being sold in April and the price collapsing never happened.

sold a few to another crowd down the country before christmas took 3 weeks to get paid and at that I had to ring them twice. Not worth the hassle, payment on collection is the only way

Had his local rep ringing looking for calves a couple of weeks ago.

Anyone got recent prices for aax and hex bull and heifer calves 2-4 weeks old?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 367 ✭✭farming93

The Uncle sold two Ch bulls out of big Friesian cows, he got 460 for one calf and 410 for the other just 15 and 13 days old. How in the name of God is someone that cracked to pay that big of money for a calf?? Id be confident I could buy two for that money, have money left over for milk replacer and make more money on the cheap calf alone. If I couldnt get two calves for that money I think Id rather leave it invested elsewhere!

Certainly shall. TBH it's prob the best way if you want a cow fattened and gone, sell the calf, fatten cow and factory. Better price than selling with calf at foot.
