Do you have a completely irrational fear?

Is there any particularly stupid or silly fear you have? Something that's just nonsensical and you know should't bother you, but it does.

For myself it's Sharks, namely Great White Sharks, but only really in video games. Anytime I'm playing a video game which I know has a Great White Shark that's gonna bloody well leap out at me it freaks me out and I'll put off playing the game until I get over it.

Funnily enough, Sharks when swimming in the ocean have never been of any concern to me.

    Being abducted by grey aliens.

    Seriously.

I think watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind did bad things to my mind when I was 4. Being pulled out through a dog flap like that little boy. :(

Until some years ago I could have got completely freezed and paralysed at the sight of a spider, whatever its size.
In the last four or five years I have got over the fear for the smaller ones and for those called daddy long legs. But any other spider can freeze nearly to death!
I cannot understand how some actors can let those chubby and furry big spiders walk on them in the movies!!!

I once worked with a girl who was absolutely terrified of bananas. One evening while out having food and a few beers, a funny fcuker we also worked found a banana and decided it would be hilaroius to wave it in her face. She went absolutely hysterical, it took ages to actually stop her crying. And yes, this is a thing

I'm not fond of either rats or injections, but I think those are fairly standard fears to have

I'm absolutely terrified of mirrors and screens (laptop, TV, computer etc.) in the dark. I never go to sleep without putting a jumper over my mirror and my telly.

Always think I'm gonna see something in them, and being schizophrenic, I usually do.

I hate spiders and rodents, but I don't think that's irrational since they're all evil and diseased and steal your soul and stuff.

I'm very afraid of getting lost, which is less of a concern with sat nav. I used to have nightmares about getting lost in strange countries at night and having to sleep in the car. Its specifically something to do with not finding the way home, I think.

When I was a kid I used to be terrified that the Loch Ness Monster would come over from Scotland and tramp on my house. With me in it.

Unleavened bread. Sponges. Street names with more than 1 vowel in the name. The coriolos effect. Betamax videos. Numbers with sharp corners. That my car is plotting to steal my toes.

If you can read this, you're too close!

Not locking the door/closing the windows when I go out.

I've never not locked the door/closed the windows before I go out, like ever, but every time I leave my house, walking away, I'm gripped by the fear I did and thus I've left the place open to a burglar of some sort, so I have to run back and check, and then leave again, and then possibly check again if I don't remember.

Hate flying insects, those daddy long legs, butterflies, especially moths!!! Hate those horrible feckers with their hairy bodies and sticky legs!
    And birds.

Fish. Wouldn't go as far as phobia, but certainly the idea of swimming with fish or having to touch a fish sends shivers down my spine. And conger eels. **** me. I can look at photos online, but in an aquarium they freak me the **** out, like they're plotting to eat me. I actually quite like aquariums otherwise.

I've gotten more relaxed but I remember as a kid there was a home movie on who's been framed or something where a young kid is holding a fish upwards by its tail. It's wriggling and flopping about and then flops into his mouth. The fish's head in the child's mouth. I felt sick and the thought of it kept me awake for weeks.

    Getting impressions in the Dentist.

Give me all the needles and fillings etc but do not put that stuff in my mouth and make me feel like I am choking on it and cannot breathe or swallow. Sorry but that's mine.

Small clusters of holes. Crumpets are my worst nightmare. I bought pancakes in aldi yesterday and I turned one upside down and it had loads of tiny deep holes in it, I felt so disgusted.

It's called trypophobia. This sums up my first experience with it

Christ that second photo is mank

I remember seeing a spam post on FB a while back that showed a fake photo of someone's shoulder with small holes in the skin allegedly caused by Garnier Fructis shampoo. Looked disgusting and got a lot of attention and shares. Maybe I have it too, but I love crumpets!

Bees and wasps. Not too much of a fear this time of year but when they are around, I'm gone. Have jumped out of a moving car to escape a bloody bumble bee :o

I've handled snakes, spiders of all sizes including a tarantula (so ticklish on the skin) and other creepy crawly things but show me a bee or wasp and I turn into a screaming girl :o

I'm afraid of it being a zombie apocalypse and they turn out to be fast ones.

A really silly one I have is beans. I can eat them blended in a soup but the tins that have pictures of normal baked beans no thank you. I imagine they look like what human eggs would look like.

Similarly I don't like hoop spaghetti in the little tins. It makes me think of ringworm.

And the usual spiders, wood lice etc. But the only thing that can still cause me nightmares is the zombies. But I love the zombie films.

No, but a boatload of rational fears, creating the rationale has taken half a lifetime. I plan on spending the second half getting rid of these rational fears.

I will not go into a room at night if the lights are on and the curtains are open. When I was around 9 my parents went out and left me and my sister with a babysitter - who was only 15 and lived down the road in the typical sense :p Anyway we were in the sitting room -lights on, curtains open- when a man came to the window asking us to let him in. I can't remember what time it was but it was late as it was really dark outside, and I remember wondering the next day how long he was just standing there staring at us.... I just feel so vulnerable if the curtains are open at night now.

    Mice/rats

Common enough fear but I think I have an actual phobia. I am absolutely petrified. I can't even look at a picture of one. Even afraid of them when they're dead.

For a while there my 3 year old got these imaginary friends called "ney" and "q".

Her descriptions of them were so realistic that I got a bit scared even though I don't believe in ghosts or anything, the whole thing had a "sixth sense" vibe to it.

She was at the bottom of the stairs one day and I was carrying down the washing and she looked at "q", who was apparently standing beside me and said to me " hey...watch out for The Q". I got a bit of an eerie feeling that someone was standing beside me :)
