Second batch is up now (PC, Wii U, 3DS, Vita, iOS, Android)

Third batch (of 4) on Tuesday night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

About 24 hours left on this batch. 3rd set go up tomorrow night (all the "Fun" categories).

Um, how do we know if something is only download only? Sorry to be noob but I have no real clue about physical retail games anymore. :o

Google and Wiki generally tell you.

Join the club. I can't remember the last time I bought a physical PC retail game.
It's a good question. Maybe check on www.amazon.co.uk?

OK getting near the end now. The "Fun" categories are now accepting nominations.

Final group (Overall) at the weekend.

Well done to 'Was there any Vita retail games released this year?' winning the Best Vita Retail Game :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,911 ✭✭✭tailgunner

I enjoyed that to be honest. It was a cool sort of meta-game that involved trawling Amazon and the likes all year looking for new Vita releases, only to ultimately come away disappointed and end up flogging the console on eBay. Loved the surprise twist at the end where
    I bought a 3DS instead
. Doubt anything will top that in 2016.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,439 ✭✭✭Josey Wales

Damn, I missed the Vita category. I would have put Shovel Knight as best downloadable game. One of the very best games of the year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Shovel Knight has enough noms to be put forward for the vote.

Thanks all. The final group is open for nominations now (Overall)

I hope to have the survey for voting up before Christmas.

Something for next year, while I think of it: is there anything to be said for another mass a separate 'art design' category alongside the graphics one? Might be a way to give underdogs a chance in the sun, since the graphics category is usually understandably dominated by big-hitters.

Maybe it's something most players don't care about, but given we already have the likes of Cuphead, Unravel, Below, Persona 5, Firewatch, The Witness etc... promised for next year - all of which have already made a strong impression - it would be a shame if they were all doomed when competing alongside whatever expensive blockbusters assault our graphics cards :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,160 ✭✭✭tok9

It feels like there are a lot of instances where only 1 game is nominated by a poster. I can understand for something like strategy, racing etc but it's seems a bit odd for the likes of game of the year especially as this is one of the strongest years I can remember.

I can never think of them when it comes time to post and maybe some people didn't play that many games.

Like I spent most of year playing The Witcher 3 and some games that were out last year. Then also I played a lot of Battlefront, which I don't feel is worth nominating as its so lacking in content, but as a Star Wars fan it has me hooked.

And then there are some games that are instantly forgettable, like Halo 5. Which I didn't nominate either and just remembered it now.

Bloodborne is the only one that deserves to win anyway :pac:

I would just say it's worth adding your favourites in. On the end they are only nominations. Either way I wasn't picking on you specifically, I just seemed more noticeable.

    Good to go, folks.

Only pick the machines that you want to vote on. Everyone will vote for the "Fun" and "Overall" categories.

The survey will stay open until next Monday at 5pm. I'll publish the results that evening.

    Good luck!

What I got from that is that Bloodborne has terrible bosses:pac:

Oh and thanks as always Mr E for organising these.

So.. we can all agree that Witcher 3 and Rocket League will likely win everything.

I go for MGSV and hope will be the GOTY as well. Rocket League was my top also.

There's quite a few left out of categories that should be given a shot... mostly because I forgot to vote for them. The lack of Undertale characters in the best character category is a crime and I'm a perpetrator.

That fact Bloodbourne wasn't in the Best Game on X-Box category is disgraceful also

From Software are rectifying that this year. It's called Dark Souls 3 :p

Definitely one of the best of the year but there's been so many strong soundtracks this year. Hard to choose between it and stuff like Splatoon, Atelier Shallie, Undertale or others that were or were not nominated.

Ah.. well I was the only one to nominate it. :(

As Retro said there was some fantastic soundtracks this year. AC Syndicate being a game I haven't played but looks to have a great soundtrack.

Dead Island left a bad taste in my mouth and probably many other peoples mouth'ses, probably the reason it was somewhat sleeper. I have only heard good things about it so will probably get it in a year from now when its on sale for ‎€20 :D

I already is for nothing now and there is a DLC pack coming that's bigger then the base game next month, DLC will add improved graphics textures and effects to all the base game too.

For me it was one of the best games released last year.

I never played Dead Island as I could tell it looked very bad for gameplay videos so I gave it a miss, this I loved from the first time I saw it in action.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,406 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Dead Island definitely put me off and even worse was the fact lots of people swear by their Grannies that it's amazing when it's a steaming crock of cack. I think I'll give it a go in a sale though since I heard lots of good things... but I heard good things about dead island as well.

Dying Light is the game Dead island said it would be.

    It is very very good.

In dead island they had driving cars (which was okay but you just stormed by zombies making them feel less threatening) I dont think there was any upgrading weapons or crafting or fixing thrm. I only really remember the one normal zombie, the big zombie and the orignal virals. Missions were just drive here and stuff. Nothing was added to combat as you got futher into the game

In dying light you have parkour which is fun but the challanges are impossible. Theres upgrading weapons, more crafting, repairing and some (very few) have camos. Also you had throwing weapoms. There are tons of different zombies, some annoying though but its nice to mix it up. The main missions them self are great (a lot of the side are fetch but the ones that arent are great especially the ones with the scientist twins) Combat improves as you go along, you get drop kick, head pound, spin hit thing and so on

Dying light was brilliant but to say dead island was crap is doing it an unjustice, they are both very similar dying light is just a fresher experience

Dying light is like a really good enhanced edition of dead island

My biggest problem with dead island was the story, I couldn't remember why I was going where I was, who was who. Why there was
    two different survivors groups
Also that ending was crap, I ended up watching it on youtube cause I found the game a bit repetitive
