iMac Freezing

    Have an issue with my 27 inch iMac. 3 Years old, spec below.

    3 or 4 months ago it started to freeze intermittently. Anything that I did during the freeze would then be carried out once it unfroze. Music continued to play. I needed to clean it up and did a wipe and reinstall.

    Issue started again two weeks ago. Same deal. Have booted with and without network, no difference. Have removed all RAM and test one stick at a time, no change. Safe mode doesnt make a difference either. I've ran hardware test and it says everything is OK. Fusion drive seems ok too.

    Had enough, wiped last week and reinstalled Adobe CC, Chrome, Java and Mailplane. Issue started again this morning. Activity monitor ticks along fine, but when the freeze happens, ever app says "Not Responding" then after a minute or two unfreezes.

    Anyone ever come across anything like this before??
    Edit: Now freezing after boot, both in safe mode and normal

    3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
    8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB < Replaced with 32GB
    1TB Fusion Drive
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2GB GDDR5

    Did the freezing coincide with the RAM replacement? If you still have the original RAM sticks, try putting them back in and seeing if the freezing thing happens.

    Is your iMac a mid 2011 or mid 2012 version. Only the latter support 32GB RAM.

    It's the 2012 version, has worked like a dream for 3 years. Only started acting the maggot a few months back. Original RAM is gone, have tried each of the 4 individually and in pairs, all combinations, in all slots. Same issue.

    What does the Console say ? Does it show any errors after it unfreezes ?

    I'd suspect the hard disk personally but the only way to prove that is through replacement. Perhaps a 512GB SSD is the order of the day ?

    New SSD in this afternoon. Running perfectly. Way way faster than before, now wondering how long the issue has been there. Thanks for input.
