    Hi,

I recently changed the engine of my 2003 Golf mk4. I got the 'new', supposedly 1.6 engine from a crashed car in a scrap yard. I say supposedly because the guy at the scrap yard that gave me a hand with taking it out of the old car said it was a 1.6 not a 1.4 engine. I purchased the engine non the less and it fits my 1.4 Golf Mk4 perfectly. I have never driven the car with it's old 1.4 engine as I bought it broken and not running knowing I have to fix it. Discovering the problem was bigger than anticipated, I decided to buy a new engine. I therefore cant tell judging by how it drives after the engine change, as I've only driven it with the new engine. I'm hoping it's a 1.4 because if not.. the tax went up and I have to payback tax that I should have paid at the 1.6 rate not 1.4 rate for the previous 6 months.

How can I find out if it's a 1.6 engine or a 1.4 like the previous engine in my car?

    Thanks

What's the engine code that's stamped in the block?
