Just saw that Scott Weiland, lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver was found dead on his tour bus tonight.

I remember him from my teenage rocker days in the 90s and he was battling a pretty bad drug addiction even back then. Guess it finally caught up with him.

Jesus really shocked to hear this, huge STP and Velvet Revolver fan. RIP Scott

Jaysus Rip but not really a shock given his history of substance abuse.

I remember seeing him with Velvet Revolver in the Ambassador. That was a great concert!

Was always a fan. Purple is one of the finest rock albums of the 90s. Saw him live in the Olympia with the band and he had incredible energy. RIP

Vasoline happened to be playing on my Google Music playlist when I saw an article about his death...pity. Still love listening to the STP. They were a great band.

Seen Velvet Revolver at the Ambassador back in 2008 also. Think he had just got out of rehab back then. Seemed so frail.

Was an amazing gig. One of their last I think.

    RIP.

I know he was trouble, but it was sad to see the De Leo's hire Chester Bennington of Linkin Park instead of him. Such an inferior weedy vocalist. And the last I heard, they covered Interstate Love Song with Joss Stone. The mind boggles

He was one of the great frontmen of the 90s, it's a shame he went the way he did. There was video of one of his recent performances posted on reddit and it was shocking the state he was in.

It's a terrible loss. Music has always been a passion and STP are one of the bands that made me want to learn guitar and get in bands when I was younger.

Always seemed to have drug issues that he could never fully resolve.

    Sad end for him.

Heard it about it two hours ago. So now we have Scott Weiland, Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain, all lead singers from famous grunge bands, and all sadly missed. Rest in Peace.

So many others though Hendrix, Jonathan Melvoin, Sid Vicious spring to mind immediately. And loads of other non famous people.

    F-k heroin.

Gutted to hear that today. If I'm honest, I always found STP patchy, but when they are good they are fantastic.

Plush, Big Bang baby and pea coat are all great tunes

    RIP

With a little bit of luck come Monday he'll be back from the dead.

    Otherwise RIP, sad news.

It's a wonder he lasted this long. Like a lot of that generation of singers/musicians he got into himself into a debilitating drug habit. You would have got long odds on him lasting through the 90's as it was.

    Nice tribute from Slash.
We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of our old friend and bandmate, Scott Weiland. We experienced a good chunk of life with Scott, and even in his darkest times, we all had hope and love for him. His artistry will live on, of that, there is no doubt.
Deepest condolences and sadness are for his children, Noah and Lucy. We all travelled around this world together on tour; our band, wives, and kids…and we grew to a big family that still remains to this day.
It’s just so sad and brutal from any perspective.
    Rest In Peace Scott

Always seemed to have drug issues that he could never fully resolve.

With regards to resolving his drug issues and what may have been behind his failure to do so. Must have seen him interviewed a dozen times or more where he spoke of a whole range of problems and issues which he claimed to to be angry about and / or that were stressing him at a given time. Having to come up $50,000 a month for his ex-wife, band mates betrayal (as he saw it) the death of his brother (of which he partially blamed himself) but when talking about all these issues he was always was very articulate, to the point and had no real trouble finding words to express his relevant anger, sorrow or regret about each. However, there was one thing which he seemed to be unable to discuss, looked hopeless when attempting to and appeared more traumatized by than all of his other problems put together and that was how he was raped by some guy when he was 12 years old. I remember seeing him discussing it once in an interview and thinking that without question it was what appeared to be his main demon. Maybe I'm wrong, but he looked thoroughly haunted by it but yet seemingly had no trouble being pragmatic about a whole host of other problems that were dogging him at the time. That was right around the time he brought out his memoir, Not Dead and Not For Sale.

A sad and premature end to another talented but troubled soul.

He made his mark on music and helped define a genre, he will be remembered for a long time to come. R.I.P. Scott.

Yeah you're right I'd say the abuse he suffered had a terrible impact on him. There's a great interview with him from Howard Stern's radio show a few years back where he discusses being raped, IIRC the abuse continued for a period of time. The guy was never detected and Weiland didn't speak about it or tell anybody.

This is the Stern interview ye're talking about. He talks about the rape. Just reinforces my thoughts that if you 'mess' with kids you should get jailed forever.

Here in Ireland, you can have 'images' and not even get jail if you have enough connections. It's literally sickening to me. :(
